The present invention relates to the upper U of an athletic shoe comprising a first openingout of which the foot sticks upwards during wearing and a second openingwhich is closed with a tongue. The two openingsare continuous with each other, and the upper U comprises a medial side stretchable partwhich covers a part of a medial side face of an arch of the foot, a lateral side stretchable partwhich covers a part of a lateral side face of a ball of a little toe (a fifth toe), a front partlocated forward of the two stretchable partsand a rear partlocated backward of the two stretchable parts. Each of the stretchable partsis provided so as to essentially cross one of side faces of the upper U from a top surface of a sole S to the second opening. Disclosed is a shoe sole comprising an outer sole F, B, a midsole and a reinforcement device made of a resin plate. The reinforcement device is firmly secured to the underside of an arch portion M of the midsole At a medial side and a lateral side of the foot, the reinforcement device is shaped like an arch between separated outer sole parts F and B. A medial foot portion of the reinforcement device is formed to have a higher hardness than a lateral foot portion of the reinforcement device . This allows the reinforcement device to have a greater flexural rigidity in its medial foot portion than in its lateral foot portion

Disclosed is a shoe sole comprising an outer sole F, B, a midsole and a reinforcement device made of a resin plate. The member comprises a front support portion,and a rear support portion,molded integrally with an arch portion,The front support portion,and the rear support portion,are disposed in front and at the back of the reinforcing device,respectively. These individual support portions,and,are clamped between an outer sole,and a midsole,of a shoe sole S. Preferably, the front support portion,of the reinforcing device,is supported by a tapered inclined face,which is inclined to ascend as it goes forward F.
