A mixing unit includes a mixing body having mixing elements that are stacked in a stacking direction and that extend in an extending direction in which the extending direction is perpendicular to the stacking direction. The mixing elements have a plurality of through holes to form a flow path therein, and are arranged such that part or all of the through holes in one of the mixing elements communicate with through holes in the adjacent mixing elements to allow fluid to be passed in the extending direction in which the mixing elements extend. The mixing unit may be employed in an agitation impeller or an adhesive dispensing unit.

A method for manufacturing a structure in which an edge portion of the structure formed by stacking a plurality of members is friction stir welded. The manufacturing method includes: a welding step of forming a friction stir welded portion by bringing a friction stir welding tool from a side of a surface of a member on one side into contact with a superposition portion of works in which the members are stacked while rotating the friction stir welding tool; and a cutting step of cutting the friction stir welded portion, and in each of two or more works produced by the cutting, a welded portion of the edge portion of the structure is formed with the cut friction stir welded portion.

The stacked member is sandwiched between the first plate and the second plate. Each of the mixing elements has first through holes. A friction stir processing apparatus comprises a tool, a processing head retaining the tool, a support table retaining the workpiece, and a cylinder unit biasing the support table toward the tool. The tool having a probe projecting from a shoulder surface, for performing friction stir processing on a workpiece made of a metal material. The processing head is pressing the tool against the workpiece so as to relatively shift the tool in a processing direction. The friction stir processing apparatus comprises load control means for controlling to constantly keep the bias force of the cylinder unit so as to constantly keep pressurizing force of the tool pressing the workpiece. It is thus possible to perform friction stir processing with excellent quality even when the workpiece has a different thickness or is made of a different material.

Friction stir processing apparatus and friction stir processing method

A friction stir processing tool is formed from a Ni-based dual multi-phase intermetallic compound alloy containing rhenium(Re). The Ni-based dual multi-phase intermetallic compound alloy is preferably formed by casting, while gradually cooling, a melt containing all the components of the composition and is preferably heat treated after casting. Moreover, in a method for friction stir processing, a work is softened by friction heat generated when the friction stir processing tool, while rotating, is pressed against the work to be processed. The friction stir processing tool includes the Ni-based dual multi-phase intermetallic compound alloy, and therefore further high hardness is exhibited to improve abrasion resistance, so that even a long period of friction stir processing can be endured.

Tool and method for friction stir processing using the friction stir processing tool

A mixing unit and various applications of the mixing unit are described herein. The mixing unit includes: a stacked member in which three or more mixing elements are stacked; and a first plate and a second plate between which the stacked member is sandwiched and which are arranged opposite each other. In the mixing unit, the mixing elements have a plurality of first through holes, the second plate has an opening portion communicating with at least one of the first through holes in the mixing elements and the mixing elements are arranged such that part or all of the first through holes in one of the mixing elements communicate with other first through holes in the adjacent mixing element to allow fluid to be passed in a direction in which the mixing elements extend.
