A recordable digital video disc preferably employable for information recording method using a laser beam having a wavelength of 600&#x2013;700 nm, composed of a transparent disc substrate provided with a spiral pregroove, a recording dye layer placed in the pregroove, and a light-reflecting layer, arranged in order, wherein the recording dye layer has a thickness in the range of 40% to 90% of a thickness corresponding to an optical path which gives the first minimum reflectance, the optical path giving the first minimum reflectance being determined from a reflectance curve which is prepared using recordable digital video discs composed of the same disc substrate, the same recording dye layer having varying thickness, and the same light-reflecting layer.

Image data representing an image to be printed is captured, and a cutting pattern for cutting the outer form of an image printed on recording paper is selected from a plurality of different cutting patterns. In accordance with the captured image data, one or more images are printed on the recording paper in sizes and layout proper for the selected cutting pattern. Then, the outer forms of one or more images are cut on the recording paper in the selected cutting pattern. This eliminates the necessity of entering the size and layout of the image to be printed on the recording paper and editing a cutting method. Moreover, one or more images can be printed on the recording paper in a desired size and layout, and the outer forms of one or more images are cut on the recording paper in a desired cutting pattern.

An optical information recording disc such as CD-R or DVD-R is composed of a transparent disc substrate provided with a spiral pregroove, a recording dye layer, placed in the pregroove, and a light-reflecting layer, wherein the pregroove formed in the area between an inner circle having a radius corresponding a half of a radius of the disc substrate and an outer circle having a radius corresponding 19/20 of the radius of the disc substrate has a radiused top corner at least one side, under the condition that the radius of the radiused corner on the outer circle is more generous than the radius of the radiused corner on the inner circle.

A thermal printer includes a conveyor for conveying thermosensitive recording material in a predetermined conveying direction. A thermal head applies heat to the recording material being conveyed, to record an image to the recording material. The thermal head incorporates plural heating elements, which are arranged in an array crosswise to the conveying direction, and generate the heat. In a case where a frame image possessing an amount of data greater than a predetermined amount is recorded on a magnetic tape using a multiplicity of tracks, on which tracks the data has been recorded is made clear. Image data composed of 1,400,000 pixels, which is four times that of the conventional number of 350,000 pixels, is obtained. Since the image data has an amount of data that is four times that in a frame image when photography is performed using the conventional 350,000-pixel CCD, the image data is recorded in a video recording area one frame at a time on ten tracks per frame, for a total of forty tracks. Auxiliary-area recording data representing on which tracks the recorded image data has been recorded and the manner in which the recorded image has been partitioned is recorded in an auxiliary recording area. When an image is reproduced, one frame of a still picture is produced after reference is made to the auxiliary-area recording data that has been recorded in the auxiliary recording area. An image can be reproduced promptly even though an image having a large amount of data is recorded on the recording tape upon being partitioned.
