In a method of forming an image in a form of pixels, the density distribution around a target pixel is obtained by processing image signals of pixels neighboring the target pixel. The target pixel is sub-divided into a plurality of sub-pixels which form of matrix of n rows.times.m columns. The sub density distribution of the sub-pixels in the target pixel is assumed from the density distribution of the neighboring pixels. The density of each of sub-pixels is determined by multiplying the density of the target pixel, by a constant P and a density ratio of the corresponding sub-pixels in the sub density distribution.

Digital image forming apparatus using subdivided pixels

An apparatus for forming an electrostatic latent image for each pixel on a photoreceptor, wherein each pixel has an imaging unit area and the dot is formed in the imaging unit area. There are provided types of reference wave signals to provide plural different modulating image signals for each pixel so that the dot can be exposed at different positions in the imaging unit area in accordance with position information obtained by processing image signals of pixels neighboring a target pixel.

Image forming apparatus with neighboring pixel processing

An image processor for processing image signals corresponding to an original image including a character image region, a halftone image region, and a continuous tone image region. The image processor includes a generator of a first kind of image signals corresponding to the character image region, and of a second kind of image signals corresponding to the halftone image region and the continuous tone image region, according to the image signals; a processor of the first image signals; and a processor of the second image signals. Image recognition apparatus

A document size detector for detecting a size of a document in use with a document scanner. The document size detector has an irradiator to irradiate the document with a light beam; a cover of the document; a receiver of the reflection light from the document and the cover; a converter to convert the reflection light to image signals; a detector to detect the shadow of the document on the cover in the image signals; and the determiner to determine the size of the document according to the detected shadow of the document.

Document size detection apparatus

The invention provides a developing apparatus in which toner is mixed with magnetic carrier particles by agitator in an agitating part so as to form two component type developer. The device for feeding toner has a rotatable feeding roller disposed above the agitating part of said developing apparatus for feeding toner thereto, the feeding roller including plural magnets therein so that magnetic carrier particles are attracted to form magnetic brush around the circumference of the feeding roller and toner is conveyed by the magnetic brush with the rotation of the feeding roller. Between the agitating part and the feeding roller, there is provided a partition having an opening positioned beneath the feeding roller so that the magnetic brush passes across the opening and the conveyed toner drops into the agitating part through the opening. At one side of the periphery of the opening, there is provided a prevention plate for preventing toner leakage, and at another side of the periphery of the opening opposite to the one side, there is provided a regulating plate for regulating a height of said magnetic brush.

Disclosed is a developing unit equipped with a shaft supporting mechanism for slidably supporting a photosensitive drum, thereby the photosensitive drum can be pressed onto the developing sleeve with an elastic force. The unit has a balancing mechanism for eliminating a thrust force caused by the driving mechanism.
