A chair having concurrently operative function between a seat and a backrest is disclosed which has a simple structure and is capable of exhibiting smooth motion and which has enhanced degree of freedom in its design because of the simple structure. The chair comprises a shallow box-like base member 2 mounted on an upper portion of a support pillar 1 and forward protruding below a front half of a seat; link members 3, 4 back-and-forth swingably provided on right and left front ends of the base member 2, the link members 3, 4 extending upward; and a swing member 6 having its front ends pivotally attached to the base member 2 at an intermediate position of the base member 2 in front of the support pillar 1 by means of a horizontal shaft 7 in the presence of a torsion coil spring 8, the swing member 6 having a portion 6k, 6j extending substantially right upward at its rear end, to the substantially upright portion 6k, 6j being attached a backrest, the swing member being provided with seat supporting portions 6f, 6g behind the intermediate pivotal point so as to support a seat frame 11 by the link members 3, 4 and the seat supporting portions 6f, 6g. In the chair, the seat supporting portions 6f, 6g provided on the swing member 6 are so formed as to upward extend from the upper surface of the swing member 6; the seat frame 11 has a contour in plan which substantially corresponds to outline of the seat and which is substantially rectangular or substantially circular when viewed in plan; the seat frame 11 is provided in its bottom surface with tongue-shaped support parts 11a-11d downward extending therefrom, and lower portions of the support parts are connected to upper end portions of the link members 3, 4 by means of a horizontal shaft 12 and lower portions of the rest of the support parts are connected to upper portions of the seat supporting portions by means of horizontal shafts 13a, 13b to thereby support the seat frame 11 at a distance from the upper surfaces of the base member 2 and the swing member 6.

A method of charging, coagulating, and filtering out particulates in a fluid. In this method, impurity particulates typified by coloring matter particulates can be efficiently removed without inducing clogging and without the need of maintenance for a long time. Also, a filter element used in this method and a fluid-filtering device are offered. The whole filtering layer of the filter element is made of a conductive layer having numerous voids passing the fluid, or the filter element has plural filtering layers of a conductive material. A filtering layer made of a conductive material is used as an electrically charging electrode.

A subject liquid is passed through the filter from its inside to outside. A primary processed liquid discharged from the filter is introduced into an oil-water separating space provided outside the filter which space has an elongated path and to which space an electric field is applied. While the primary processed liquid passes through the oil-water separating space, rise of separated oil and fall of separated water are facilitated.

The apparatus includes an outer cylindrical electrode, a charging electrode within the outer cylindrical electrode, a central electrode, the adsorbent and a source of the electrical voltage connected to the outer cylindrical electrode, the charging electrode and the central electrode. The DC or DC/AC voltage is impressed across the outer cylindrical electrode and the charge electrode, on one side, with the voltage on the charging electrode and the outer cylindrical electrode being at the same potential while fluid under pressure is introduced through an inlet in the outer cylindrical electrode to a fluid receiving space defined by the outer cylindrical electrode and the charging electrode.

A cushioning mechanism suitable for use with an office chair is disclosed. A seat frame is connected pivotally to the front of a support frame for swinging motion about the pivotal connection. The swinging motion of the seat frame is converted into the translation thereof by means of a link mechanism, and thus a cushioning member such as a coil spring incorporated in the support frame is compressed by the translation of the seat frame. Accordingly, even when the seat portion is made to swing by a large degree, the front of the seat portion is not greatly shifted in height, thereby enabling the user to sit in the chair comfortably.

The suturing presser is provided with a staple-urging plate for urging the staple in each of the staple-holding apertures toward the staple-receiving groove.

A method of efficiently eliminating impurities, particularly of low molecular weight and low concentration, from electric insulating liquids by means of applying an electric field to the electric insulating liquid to charge the contaminant particles therefrom and then contacting the thus-treated liquid with at least one absorbent to remove the charged contaminant particles from said liquid by means of an absorbent having ion-radicals in its structure, such as zeolite, and then eliminating the rough particles therefrom by means such as a percolator, centrifuge or precipitation tank. In a brain-wave analysis apparatus, an electrical brain-wave signal is analyzed for purposes of diagnosis by detecting the time interval between adjacent ones of the intersections of the brain-wave signal with a predetermined level, and the peak value and the wave-form area of the brain-wave signal in the said time interval, or the amplitude value of the brain-wave signal every constant period of time. The said time intervals, peak values, wave form areas, and amplitude values are each classified according to their magnitude, accumulated and stored; and said information is used to prepare histograms. The histograms are analyzed by a processor to obtain their standard deviations, and variations in the standard deviations with time are displayed or recorded to provide a basis for diagnosing living body conditions.
