Provided are a sustained releaser of sex pheromone substances and a method for controlling insect pest by using the releaser, each enabling to control the simultaneous release of a mixture of sex pheromone substances having different chemical structures of one insect pest or a mixture of sex pheromone substances of insect pests, and each enabling to release the sex pheromone substances at a fixed rate or greater during the infestation period or periods of the respective insect pest or pests. More specifically, provided is a sustained releaser of sex pheromone substances comprising one or more first sex pheromone substances selected from linear aliphatic aldehyde having 10 to 18 carbon atoms, one or more second sex pheromone substances selected from aldehyde-free aliphatic derivatives having 7 to 20 carbon atoms, and first and second chambers each made of polymer material, wherein all of the first sex pheromone substances or all of the first sex pheromone substances and some of the second sex pheromone substances are enclosed in the first chamber and the remainder of the sex pheromone substances is enclosed in the second chamber.

Sustained releaser comprising sex pheromone substances

Provided are a sustained release dispenser which can control the release of sex pheromone simultaneously toward two or more species of insect pests and can also release the sex pheromone in response to the generation period of insect pest and the pest control method toward two or more insect pests. Provided specifically is a sex pheromone sustained release dispenser comprising two or more sex pheromone substances, each substance being aliphatic derivative having 10 to 20 carbons, and first and second chambers wherein some or all of the sex pheromone substance having a smallest carbon number excluding a carbon number in a functional group is contained in a first polymer chamber and the remainder is contained in a second polymer chamber. Provided also is a pest control method for using the sex pheromone sustained release dispenser.

Sustained release dispenser comprising two or more sex pheromone substances

Provided is a sustained releaser of a sex pheromone having a high release rate, especially preferably of a sex pheromone of an aliphatic acetate compound having 10 to 16 carbon atoms, wherein the release of the sex pheromone is controlled so that it can be released at a constant rate over a control period of a pest insect. More specifically, provided is a sustained pheromone releaser comprising a polymer container and having, enclosed therein, a mixture having a melting point of 15 to 35&#xb0; C. and being obtained by mixing a sex pheromone substance and a compound having a melting point of 10 to 40&#xb0; C.

Herein disclosed is an annular sustained release pheromone-dispenser which has a shape favorable for packaging and transportation, can easily be installed, can maintain its installed condition over a long time period and can easily be handled even after use without any trouble. Annular sustained release pheromone-dispenser and its installation tool

An annular sustained release pheromone-dispenser having a shape which is favorable for packaging and transportation, easy installation and which can maintain its installed condition over a long time. And is easily handled. Also provided is a tool for easy and rapid installation of the pheromone-dispenser at elevated locations. The inventive sustained release pheromone-dispenser has a plurality of a parallel arranged plastic tubes which are capable of being semi-resiliently deformed. The ends are fused together and the central portions are independent and can form an annular space by separating the tubes from one another.

Herein disclosed is a sustained release dispenser capable of uniformly releasing a volatile liquid ingredient over a long time period even when the amount of the liquid ingredient remaining in a container is reduced. According to an embodiment, the sustained release dispenser comprises a plastic container 4 having a liquid and volatile ingredient-permeable outer layer 1 and a liquid-absorbable inner layer 3 having the same material as those of the outer layer 1 and a liquid and volatile ingredient 2 enclosed in the plastic container. According to other embodiment, the sustained release dispenser comprises a plastic container 6 in which grooves 5 are formed on the inner wall and a volatile ingredient 2 accommodated in the container 6. According to other embodiment, the sustained release dispenser comprises a bag formed from a liquid permeable film 7 provided with a highly wettable film 8 on the inner surface thereof and a liquid sex pheromone 9 accommodated in the bag.

Sustained release preparations

The invention provides a dispenser form for substainedly releasing vapor of a sex pheromone compound of pest insects with an object to control the population of the insects. The invention dispenser is characterized by the features that: the capacity thereof is sufficiently large to contain at least 100 mg of the pheromone; the barrier wall thereof through which the pheromone permeates to be released from the outer surface is made of a polymeric material swellable with the pheromone in an equilibrium swelling of 2-6% by weight at 20.degree. C.; and the outer surface area S thereof given in mm.sup.2 is sufficient to give a ratio S/W, W being the amount of the pheromone contained therein given in mg, in the range from 4 to 11. The rate of pheromone emission from the dispenser is relatively constant at 0.6 mg/day or larger over a long period of time of, for example, 3 months or longer.
