Disclosed is an actuator for a marine steering apparatus with steering shaft. The actuator comprises a housing, a gearmotor disposed within the housing, a worm gear disposed within the housing, and a sector gear disposed within the housing. The gearmotor drives the worm gear and the worm gear drives the sector gear. The sector gear transmits torque to the steering shaft of the marine steering apparatus.

The propulsion unit comprises an electric actuator and a tiller coupled the electric actuator. The electric actuator includes a housing having a first end and second end. There is an output shaft fully received within the housing. The output shaft includes a coupling portion and a tiller is coupled the coupling portion of the output shaft such that such that a line of action of the actuator is in the same plane as the tiller.

An electric actuator comprises a housing and an output shaft reciprocatingly received by the housing. There is a screw assembly disposed within the housing and coupled to the output shaft. The screw assembly includes a plurality of annular rollers and a central screw received by the annular rollers. The annular rollers are rotatable about the central screw. There is a motor which includes a stator and a rotor. The rotor has an inner bore which engages the annular rollers. Rotation of the rotor causes the central screw to translate axially relative to the rotor and the output shaft to reciprocate relative to the housing.

Electric actuator for marine steering system

An electric actuator for a marine steering system comprises a housing and an output shaft reciprocatingly received by the housing. There is a rotor disposed within the housing. The rotor is coupled to the output shaft of the electric actuator. Rotation of the rotor causing the output shaft of the electric actuator to reciprocate relative to the housing. There is a motor disposed within the housing. The motor has an output shaft coupled to the rotor. A longitudinal axis of the output shaft of the motor is parallel with a longitudinal axis of the output shaft of the electric actuator. There is also a drive mechanism disposed within the housing. A hydraulic steering system comprising a primary propulsion unit having a tiller, an auxiliary propulsion unit having a tiller, and a hydraulic steering actuator operatively coupled to the tiller of the primary propulsion unit. A tie bar couples a tie bar mount of the hydraulic steering actuator to the tiller of the auxiliary propulsion unit. A first connecting member which connects the tie bar to the tie bar mount of the hydraulic steering actuator and a second connecting member which connects the tie bar to the auxiliary propulsion unit are oriented substantially perpendicular to one another.

Steering assembly for a marine vessel with vertically offset propulsion units

An electric actuator for imparting steering movement to a propulsion unit of a marine vessel includes a housing and an output shaft reciprocatingly received by the housing. There is a motor disposed within the housing. The motor has a rotor assembly and a stator. Rotation of the rotor assembly causes the output shaft to translate axially relative to the rotor assembly and causes the output shaft to reciprocate relative to the housing. There is a coupling assembly mounted to the housing. The coupling assembly coupling the electric actuator to the propulsion unit of the marine vessel. There is a steering control unit mounted to the housing. The steering control unit drives the motor to cause the rotor assembly to rotate and the output shaft to reciprocate relative to the housing.

Electric actuator for a marine vessel

A lock valve includes a lock valve body having a bore with a valve spool reciprocatingly received therein. There is a check valve adjacent each end of the bore. Each of the check valves has a check valve member facing the bore and resiliently biased towards a valve seat at each end of the bore. A pressure relief port communicates with the bore near the center thereof and between lands of the valve spool. A pair of spaced-apart grooves are disposed within the spool valve bore. Each groove permits fluid communication past a land of the valve spool when the valve spool is displaced towards one end of the bore by fluid pressure applied to other end of the bore so as to unseat the check valve member adjacent to the one end to the bore and allow pressurized fluid to pass from the one end of the bore, through the groove, and into the relief port.

In some embodiments, a hydraulic steering actuator may be provided. The actuator may include: a cylinder and piston rod reciprocatingly mounted within the cylinder and extending through the cylinder for movement along a piston rod axis; a pair of spaced-apart cylinder arms extending radially outward of the cylinder and a pivot plate extending between the cylinder arms; a pair of support arms which are pivotable about a tilt axis and are connected to opposite ends of the piston rod to allow arcuate movement of the piston rod about the tilt axis while maintaining the piston rod axis parallel to the tilt rod axis; and a tie bar mount disposed on the cylinder and having an aperture extending therethrough for the receiving a connecting member which connects a tie bar to the tie bar mount, wherein the aperture extends axially in a direction substantially perpendicular to the piston rod axis.

Steering assembly for a marine vessel with vertically offset propulsion

The present invention relates to a tie bar. The tie bar has a first subassembly and a second subassembly. The first subassembly includes an end portion configured to connect to a propulsion unit, a first tube that extends from the end portion and a threaded member operatively connected to the end portion and disposed within and at least partially extending along the first tube. The second subassembly includes an end portion configured to connect to a further propulsion unit and a second tube that extends from the end portion of the second subassembly. The second subassembly is configured to threadably engage with the threaded member. The distance of separation between the end portions is selectively adjustable thereby.
