Personal audio systems and methods are disclosed. A personal audio system includes a voice activity detector to determine whether or not an ambient audio stream contains voice activity, a pitch estimator to determine a frequency of a fundamental component of an annoyance noise contained in the ambient audio stream, and a filter bank to attenuate the fundamental component and at least one harmonic component of the annoyance noise to generate a personal audio stream. The filter bank implements a first filter function when the ambient audio stream does not contain voice activity, or a second filter function when the ambient audio stream contains voice activity.

Annoyance noise suppression

Personal audio systems and methods are disclosed. A personal audio system includes a processor to generate a personal audio stream by processing an ambient audio stream in accordance with an active processing parameter set, a circular buffer memory to store a most recent snippet of the ambient audio stream, and an event detector to detect a trigger event. In response to detection of the trigger event, a controller may extract audio feature data from the most recent snippet of the ambient audio stream and transmit the audio feature data and associated metadata to a knowledgebase remote from the personal audio system.

There is disclosed active acoustic filter systems and methods. A processor is disposed within a housing configured to interface with a user's ear. A memory stores data defining one or more locations and a respective set of location-based processing parameters associated with each of the one or more locations. A personal computing device external to the housing is coupled to the processor via a first wireless communications link. The personal computing device determines a current location of the active acoustic filter system. The processor generates digitized processed sound by processing digitized ambient sound in accordance with a set of location-based processing parameters retrieved from the memory, the retrieved set of location-based processing parameters associated with the current location of the active acoustic filter system as determined by the personal computing device.

Personal audio systems and methods are disclosed. The personal audio system includes a processor configured to generate a processed ambient audio stream by processing the ambient audio stream in accordance with a selected set of processing parameters selected from the plurality of processing parameter sets stored in the memory, a communications interface configured to receive a new set of processing parameters, selected by someone other than the user, and a controller configured to instruct the processor to begin generating the processed ambient audio stream by using the new set of processing parameters.

A time heuristic audio control system, comprises a receiver for receiving time-based data from a personal computing device and a memory storing one or more sets processing parameters comprising instructions for processing the ambient sound based upon the time-based data. Active acoustic filter systems and methods are disclosed. An active acoustic filter system includes a memory storing one or more stored sound profiles and a respective set of processing parameters associated with each of the one or more stored sound profiles. A processor coupled to the memory generates processed sound by processing ambient sound in accordance with a set of processing parameters retrieved from the memory based on results from comparing an ambient sound profile to at least one of the one or more stored sound profiles.

Active acoustic filter with automatic selection of filter parameters based on ambient sound

Ambient sound is converted into digital signals. A processor performs active noise cancellation and/or a transformation operation that is distinct from the active noise cancellation on the digital signals. The active noise cancellation and the transformation operation transform the digital signals into modified digital signals. The modified digital signals are converted into modified analog signals. The modified analog signals are outputted as audio waves. An interior microphone is configured to output an output signal to the processor in response to receiving the modified analog signals. In response to receiving the output signal from the interior microphone, the processor is configured to determine whether the modified digital signals produce desired audio waves.

Real-time audio processing of ambient sound

Ambient sound is converted into an ambient audio stream. A processed ambient audio stream is generated by processing the ambient audio stream in accordance with a selected set of processing parameters selected from the plurality of processing parameter sets stored in the memory. Trigger data is searched and a new set of processing parameters is requested. The trigger data identifies the new set of processing parameters that is available for use in processing the ambient audio stream. A received new set of processing parameters is selected as the selected set of processing parameters. The processed ambient audio stream is converted into processed output sound.

A combined ambient sound and secondary audio system comprises at least one microphone for receiving ambient sound, at least one receiver for receiving secondary audio from a secondary audio source not audible in the ambient sound. The system further includes a memory storing one or more sets processing parameters comprising instructions for processing the ambient sound and the secondary audio and a processor coupled to the memory, the microphone, and the receiver configured to generate combined ambient and secondary sound by combining the ambient sound and the secondary audio as directed by a selected set of processing parameters retrieved from the memory.

Personal audio systems and methods are disclosed. A personal audio system includes a processor to generate a personal audio stream by processing the digitized ambient audio in accordance with an active processing parameter set, an event detector to detect a trigger event other than manual selection by a user of the personal audio system, and a controller configured to, in response to detection of the trigger event, select a new processing parameter set and instruct the processor to begin generating the personal audio stream by processing the digitized ambient audio in accordance with the new processing parameter set.

Adaptive filtering with machine learning

Learning personal audio systems and methods are disclosed. A learning personal audio system characterizes the digitized ambient sound so as to generate feature data for the digitized ambient sound, instructs a network interface to transmit the feature data to the remote server, requests one or more appropriate sound profiles from the remote server based upon the feature data, receives one or more selected sound profiles, selected by the remote server based upon the feature data, and initiates processing of the digitized ambient sound based upon the one or more selected sound profiles received from the remote server to generate digitized processed sound. The one or more selected sound profiles for the learning personal audio system are based upon sound profiles which are manually selected by a plurality of other users of personal audio systems similar to the learning personal audio system.
