The invention relates to impact-modified, thermoplastic compositions, where the measured refractive index difference between the impact modifier particles and the matrix composition is greater than 0.008 units, yet a blend of the impact modifier particles in the matrix produces a transparent composition. The impact modifier particles are preferably impact modifier composite particles, being intimately blended with one or more polymeric process aids or dispersing aids. The polymeric process aids are physically or chemically attached to the impact modifier particles, forming composite particles that allow for facile powder isolation. The impact modifier composite particles provide improved physical, chemical, and/or rheological properties to the thermoplastic composition. Preferably the impact modifier particles of the invention are core-shell impact modifiers.

Impact resistant transparent thermoplastic compositions

The invention relates to a polymer membrane composition having improved water flux and stable pore size. The water flux is improved by increasing the hydrophilicity of the membrane using a matrix polymer blended with controlled architecture amphiphilic block copolymers. Preferred membranes are those having a fluoropolymer matrix and acrylic amphiphilic block copolymers. The addition of the amphiphilic block copolymers are especially useful in microfiltration and ultra filtration membranes when used in water filtration.

Water flux polymer membranes

The invention provides a polymer particle dispersion in an aqueous medium and a method of making the same, which comprises an emulsion polymerized polymer and a macroinitiator covalently bonded to the emulsion polymerized polymer. The living macroinitiator comprises a hydrophilic, pH-insensitive monomer in reacted form. The polymer particle dispersion may be obtained by reacting at least one monomer with the living macroinitiator and without a surfactant to effect polymerization of the monomer(s). The emulsion polymerized polymer may be comprised of at least one additional ethylenically unsaturated monomer in polymerized form.

Method for preparing pH-insensitive surfactant free polymer particle dispersion in aqueous medium

The present invention relates to polymeric oil-return agents which solubilize or disperse mineral oil and/or synthetic oil lubricants with hydrofluorocarbon, hydrochlorofluorocarbon, and hydrofluoroolefin-based refrigerants and refrigerant compositions containing them. The polymeric oil-return agents are random copolymers containing less than about 30 wt % fluorine and produced from at least one monomer providing compatibility with the oil phase and at least one monomer providing compatibility with the refrigerant phase. The polymeric oil-return agents provide for more efficient return of mineral oil and/or synthetic oil lubricants from non-compressor zones back to a compressor zone in a refrigeration system.

Random copolymer oil return agents

The present invention relates to fluorine free polymeric oil-return agents that increase the miscibility of lubricants such as mineral oils and/or oxygenated lubricants with refrigerants in order to improve oil return and system performance of refrigeration systems. It was discovered that fluorine free block copolymers having a block compatible with the oil phase, and at least one block compatible with the refrigerant phase can effectively compatibilize lubricating oils with HFC and HFO refrigerants.

Block copolymer oil return agents

The invention relates to an amphiphilic block copolymer having an increased speed of water adsorption. The non-water soluble copolymer, having a hydrophilic middle block and hydrophobic endblocks, has a high rate water transmission and/or permeation. The increase in rate is due to neutralization, or partial neutralization of the hydrophilic block of the copolymer. Furthermore, the absorption rate can be controlled by the extent of the neutralization. Another aspect of the invention is the use of co-monomers and/or additives to further increase or tailor the water absorption properties. The use of additives and comonomers is also shown to enhance the processability of the disclosed polymer composition.

Amphiphilic block copolymer formulations

The invention relates to a liquid rubber acrylic block copolymer, and its use in modifying a thermoset composition. The liquid rubber acrylic block copolymer adds toughness and flexibility to a thermoset composition. The acrylic block copolymers are especially useful for modifying epoxy compositions.

The present invention relates to acrylic block polymers, either block copolymers or homopolymers, synthesized by a controlled free-radical process, and their use as low temperature flow modifiers in bio-derived fuel compositions. They are especially useful in modifying the low temperature flow behavior in bio-derived fuels. The acrylic polymers are especially useful as cold filter plugging control additives in bio-derived fuels.

The present invention relates to acrylic block copolymers synthesized by a controlled free-radical process, and their use as low temperature flow modifiers in oil-based compositions. They are especially useful in modifying the low temperature flow behavior in lubricating oils. The acrylic copolymers are especially useful as pour point depressants in lubricating oil.

A modified clay may be made by contacting a clay with an unsaturated cationic compound and an alkoxyamine, or an adduct thereof. The resulting pre-activated clay, which contains a cationic alkoxyamine bound to the clay, may be further treated with a monomer to provide a polymer that is bound to the clay, thereby forming a nanocomposite material. The nanocomposite material may in turn be blended with another polymer prepared from the same or a different monomer.

The invention relates to an amphiphilic multiblock copolymer capable of forming non-covalent crosslinks. The non-water soluble copolymer, having a hydrophilic middle block and hydrophobic end blocks, has a high water transmission or permeation. The copolymer can be used in applications requiring absorption and/or transmission of fluids, the preferred fluids being water or hydrophilic liquids such as glycerin, glycols, and alcohols. One specific use of the amphiphilic multiblock copolymer is as a hydrogel material.

The present invention relates to acrylic block copolymers synthesized by a controlled radical process, and their use as thickeners in oil-based compositions. The acrylic copolymers are especially useful as viscosity index improvers in lubricating oil.
