The present invention relates to a class of compounds represented by formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, pharmaceutical compositions comprising compounds of Formula (I), and methods of selectively antagonizing the &#x3b1;&#x3bd;&#x3b2;and/or the &#x3b1;&#x3bd;&#x3b2;integrin without significantly antagonizing the IIb/IIIa integrin.

Compounds, compositions and methods of treatment are described to control brain damage associated with anoxia or ischemia which typically follows stroke, cardiac arrest or perinatal asphyxia.
