Methods and systems are provided for dynamically adjusting broadcast beam patterns of a wavefront emitted by an antenna array based on the types of devices communicatively coupled to the base station associated with the antenna array. The broadcast beam patterns can be adjusted by modifying the broadcast mode or at least one phase, amplitude, or power of the at least one antenna associated with the base station. Adjusting the beam pattern, for example between multiple beams and a single unified beam, based on device types can improve the quality of service for the devices and reduce the processing burden of the base station.

A mechanism to control transmission by a base station, which may help to control interference on an adjacent frequency. The base station is configured to operate on a first frequency and is equipped with a number of antennas enabled for transmission on the first frequency. Upon detecting of a trigger for reducing potential interference on the adjacent frequency, the base station reduces the number of its antennas that are enabled for transmission on the first carrier, which may reduce the overall energy of the base station's transmission and may thereby reduce interference on the adjacent frequency. In an example implementation, the base station could disable a proper subset of its antennas from use for transmission on the first frequency, while leaving a remainder of its antennas enabled for transmission on the first frequency.

A Fifth Generation New Radio (5GNR) network serves User Equipment (UE) with low-latency Quality-of-Service (QoS). A source 5GNR node receives signaling from the UE and transfers the signaling to a network controller. The network controller processes the signaling to determine a low-latency QoS. A network gateway receives user data and transfers the user data to the source 5GNR node. The source 5GNR node wirelessly transfers the user data to the UE. Responsive to the low-latency QoS, the source 5GNR node transfers multicast signaling to the network controller when received signal strength at the UE reaches a multicast trigger. The network controller transfers multicast signaling to the network gateway. The network gateway multicasts the user data to the source 5GNR node and to neighbor 5GNR nodes.

A method and system for controlling connectivity of a user equipment device (UE). When a UE is served with dual connectivity by a first access node over a first connection in accordance with a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second access node over a second connection in accordance with a second RAT, initiation of a voice call for the UE will be detected. And in response to at least detecting the initiation of the voice call for the UE, the first access node will invoke transition of the UE from being served with the dual connectivity over the first connection and the second connection to instead being served with standalone connectivity over the first connection.

When a donor base station serves a relay on a wireless backhaul connection that encompasses at least two carriers, and where the relay includes a relay base station and a relay-WCD, communications over the wireless backhaul connection will be distributed among the carriers based on whether the communications are control-plane communications with the relay base station or rather user-plane communications with a WCD served by the relay base station. For instance, all such control-plane communication could be carried on one of the carriers, and all such user-plane communication could be carried instead on another of the carriers.

Upon satisfying a first handover condition based on signal measurements, an identity of the one or more target access nodes is determined, the identity being associated with a latency, and a determination is made whether or not to execute the handover based on at least the identifier or the latency of the one or more target access nodes. As macrocell access nodes are known to have smaller latency than small access nodes, the macrocell access node is a preferred target, regardless of signal measurements of the small access node. In embodiments, the type or latency of the target access node is weighted higher than the signal measurement for the determination of a preferred target access node. Target access nodes may be assigned priorities based on their type, latency, and signal measurements, and highest-prioritized target access nodes may be preferred as handover targets.

Exemplary embodiments described herein include systems, methods, and nodes for selecting a donor for a relay wireless device. Candidate signal arcs of a predetermined angle for a relay wireless device that do not meet an interference criteria are determined. Signals levels are scanned for the relay wireless device for signals received from a plurality of donor access nodes, the scanning iterating over the determined candidate signal arcs that do not meet the interference criteria. Candidate donor access nodes with a received signal level at the relay wireless device that meets a signal level criteria for each candidate signal arc based on the scanning are determined. And a donor access node is selected for the relay wireless device based on the determined candidate donor access nodes.

According to aspects of the disclosure, a method and system are provided for managing signaling in a wireless communication network. In accordance with the disclosure, a base station radiates to provide an antenna radiation pattern defining a coverage area, and the base station serves a UE in the coverage area defined by the antenna radiation pattern. The base station also selects, based on the determined antenna radiation pattern, a CSI reporting rate. Responsive to the selection of the CSI reporting rate, the base station causes the UE to periodically report CSI to the base station according to the selected CSI reporting rate.
