The disclosed technology provides a system and method for allocating frequency bands to a mobile device or user equipment (UE) based on priorities assigned to the different frequency bands. When no priority is assigned to the frequency bands, when a special or reserved priority is assigned, or when equal priority is assigned, the frequency band allocation to the UE is based on a default frequency allocation algorithm (e.g., based on a relative bandwidth of the different frequency bands). When a UE is capable of utilizing a first and a second frequency band, and the priority assigned to the first frequency band is higher than the priority assigned to the second frequency band, the network (e.g., eNB/gNB) overrides the default algorithm and preferentially allocates the first frequency band to UE even when the first frequency band has a smaller bandwidth than the second frequency band or when the default algorithm would otherwise prefer the first frequency band.

Dual connectivity and carrier aggregation band selection

The disclosed technology provides a system and method for allocating resource blocks to a mobile device based on a traffic priority of wireless resources between the network and the mobile device. Traffic priority can be determined based on quality of service (QOS) identifiers or network slice identifiers. The highest priority users are allocated inner resource blocks with the lowest allowed maximum power reduction (MPR), the lowest priority users are allocated edge resource blocks with the highest allowed MPR, and the intermediate priority users are allocated outer resource blocks.

Systems and methods for carrier aggregation based on subscriber category information, such as for New Radio Carrier Aggregation in a 5G Network. A call is placed via a calling device and detected at a node of a network. A user equipment capability check is performed, which determines whether the calling device supports carrier aggregation. Subscriber information is received associated with the calling device, including a quality of service (QoS) identifier associated with a subscriber category. Based on the QoS identifier, two or more carriers are selected and assigned. The QoS identifier is associated with a relative priority for assigning cells based on corresponding bandwidth. Call setup is initiated via the two or more carriers.

Network-based cell assignment for carrier aggregation systems and methods

Techniques for dynamically switching between waveforms are discussed herein. For example, a waveform selector (e.g., at a base station) may select a waveform for the UE to utilize to change data throughput. In some examples, the base station may select a DFT-s-OFDM or a CP-OFDM for the UE to utilize such that data throughput is reduced at certain times. The base station may determine which waveform to utilize based on data received from the UE, such as location data, signal data, and/or other data.

A base station of a telecommunication network can determine whether a user equipment (UE) should use a two-layer uplink configuration or an uplink carrier aggregation (CA) configuration for uplink transmissions to the base station, based on radio condition metrics reported by the UE to the base station. If radio condition metrics reported by the UE satisfy two-layer uplink criteria, the base station can instruct the UE to switch to using the two-layer uplink configuration. If radio condition metrics reported by the UE do not satisfy the two-layer uplink criteria, the base station can instruct the UE to switch to using the uplink CA configuration.

Solutions for early cellular offloading include: receiving, at a node of a wireless network, from a user equipment (UE), a first message (e.g., an A3, A5, B1, or B2 event report) containing information regarding a serving cell of a first wireless technology generation and information regarding a neighbor cell of the first wireless technology generation (e.g., reference signal receive power (RSRP), reference signal received quality (RSRQ), or signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) measurement for fifth generation cellular technology (5G)); determining that a handover to the neighbor cell will not be performed; and based on at least the information regarding the serving cell and determining that the handover to the neighbor cell will not be performed, triggering an offload from the serving cell to a cell of a second wireless technology generation (e.g., fourth generation cellular technology (4G)).

Efficient radio access technology offloading without dedicated measurement report

The disclosed technology provides a system and method for allocating resource blocks to a mobile device based on a power headroom of the mobile device as contained in a power headroom report (PHR) from the mobile device. The network allocates mobile devices with the highest power headroom (e.g., power headroom above a certain power threshold) with edge resource blocks, mobile devices with the lowest power headroom (e.g. power headroom below a certain power threshold) with inner resource blocks, and other mobile devices with outer resource blocks.

A user equipment (UE) may perform multiple searches within a specified search period to locate the wireless band that provides the most throughput. For instance, if the UE finds a low band with time remaining in the search period, the UE continues to search for a higher frequency wireless. In some examples, the UE attempts to locate a high band within a next portion of the search period. If the UE finds the high band, then the UE will use that band since it provides the most throughput of the available bands. If the UE does not find the high band, then the UE searches for a mid-band for another portion of the search time. By prioritizing higher bands over the first available band that is located in the initial search, the UE will connect to the band that provides the best user experience and the most throughput.
