A medical device adapted for contact with a vessel or cavity in the body including a tubular portion is provided. The device has an external surface including an external substance that is at least one of a coating or an impregnation, comprising alexidine in an amount that is both anti thrombogenically effective and anti microbially effective. The device also has an internal surface including an internal substance that is at least one of a coating or an impregnation, comprising alexidine in an amount that is both anti thrombogenically effective and anti microbially effective.

Provided are formulations and related methods, for coating or impregnating a medical device, as well as a coated or impregnated medical device, for example, a device that is a catheter or cannula, where a different formulation may be used for interior surface of device and for exterior surface of the device.

Enhanced formulations for coating medical devices

A coupler for indicating the presence of a substance in blood is disclosed. The coupler includes a housing and a test strip. The housing has a proximal end and a distal end, and defines a hollow interior for receiving withdrawn blood. The test strip is held within the hollow interior of the housing. The housing removably couples with a medical instrument and a needle. The test strip produces a visible signal that indicates the presence or absence of the substance in the withdrawn blood. A kit including a syringe, a needle and the coupler is also disclosed.

Device with integrated allergy testing

A catheter lock solution includes a hydrochloric acid solution having a concentration of 0.3 Molar to 1.0 Molar. This hydrochloric acid solution may be used to lock a catheter and/or salvage an infected catheter.

Antimicrobial hydrochloric acid catheter lock solution and method of use

The disclosure provides an allergy detection system for use during catheterization. The allergy detection system is incorporated into specialized syringes, connectors for use with standard syringes, or can be an independent test module designed for the sole purpose of allergy detection. The detection system features a test strip, such as an immunochromatographic test strip, and a structure to couple the system to a connector, syringe, or a housing, to form an independent test module. The detection system, by way of test strips, is used to detect potential allergic reactions.

A medical device includes a base material having an immobilized enzyme and dextran sulfate. The dextran sulfate has a molecular weight that is less than 40 kilo dalton (kDa). The medical device is formed from at least a base material. An enzyme is immobilized on the base material. The enzyme is stabilized with a dextran sulfate having a molecular weight of less than 40 (kDa).

Combined fibrinolytic and antimicrobial catheter and uses thereof

A catheter lock composition for preventing bacterial infection having an effective amount of glycerol and sodium chloride solution. The effective amount of glycerol is between about 35-60% and sodium chloride is in a concentration range between 0.5-0.9%. The composition further includes an anticoagulant and/or an antimicrobial agent.

A composition for dissolving or reducing the viscosity of sputum on a surface of a device includes an effective amount of glycerol and an effective amount of dextran sulfate in a saline solution. The effective amount of glycerol is between about 30-50% and the effective amount of dextran sulfate is between about 10-30%. The composition may further include an antimicrobial agent.

An embodiment in accordance with the present invention provides an integrated syringe-device which can store a volume of fluid for infusion, can connect via an air-tight connector to another device (such as a luer connector), can flush fluid through the connector into the other device, and can deliver a cap that forms an air-tight closure to the device connector.

The fibrinolytic enzyme is stabilized with a dextran sulfate having a molecular weight of less than 40 (kDa).
