A photosensitive recording material comprising an alicyclic, solvent-soluble, thermosetting epoxy oligomer capable of cationic polymerization, the oligomer being of a specified structure, an aliphatic monomer having at least one ethylenically unsaturated bond, the monomer being liquid at normal temperature and pressure, having a boiling point of 100.degree. C. or above at normal pressure and being capable of radical polymerization, a photoinitiator selected from the group consisting of i) a first photoinitiator capable of simultaneously generating a radical species that activates radical polymerization and a Br.o slashed.nsted acid or Lewis acid that activates cationic polymerization, upon exposure to actinic radiation, and ii) a second photoinitiator comprised of a radical polymerization photoinitiator capable of generating a radical species that activates radical polymerization upon exposure to actinic radiation and a cationic polymerization photoinitiator capable of generating a Br.o slashed.nsted acid or Lewis acid that activates cationic polymerization upon exposure to actinic radiation, and a spectral sensitizer that sensitizes the first photoinitiator or second photoinitiator; the aliphatic monomer being mixed in an amount of from 20 parts by weight to 80 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the alicyclic epoxy oligomer. This photosensitive recording material is highly effective for producing a volume type phase hologram having superior diffraction efficiency, transparency, weatherability such as thermal resistance, and chemical stability.

A repeatability corresponding to the limit of possible repeated recording/erasing effected by a physical or chemical change in the material constituting the recording can be obtained. A rewritable thermosensitive recording medium having a recording layer, the transparency of which reversibly changes depending on the temperature thereof. Further, the recording layer contains a matrix material and an organic low-molecular-weight material dispersed in the matrix material as main components thereof. Moreover, an alicyclic dicarboxylic acid compound is added to the organic low-molecular-weight material dispersed in the matrix material. Furthermore, by adding the alicyclic dicarboxylic acid compound to the organic low-molecular-weight material, the eutectic point of the organic low-molecular-weight material and the alicyclic dicarboxylic acid compound becomes higher than the melting point of the organic low-molecular-weight material. Additionally, in spite of the fact that the amount of the alicyclic dicarboxylic acid compound to be added to the organic low-molecular-weight material is small, the difference between the eutectic point of the organic low-molecular-weight material and the alicyclic dicarboxylic acid compound and the melting point of the organic low-molecular-weight material is much larger than those obtained in cases of conventional recording materials. Consequently, the range of temperature, to which the recording layer should be heated for changing a state thereof from an opaque state to a transparent state, can be considerably enlarged without reducing the opacity of the recording layer.

Rewritable thermosensitive recording medium

A rewritable recording/display apparatus using a rewritable recording medium in which color development reaction occurs by thermal energy at a predetermined temperature, and in which a color extinguishing reaction occurs by thermal energy at a temperature lower than the color development temperature, and which is capable of repeatingly performing recording and erasing of images. The apparatus also has a color developing heating device for recording an image on the rewritable recording medium by heating the rewritable recording medium, and an erasing heating device for erasing the image after the image has been recorded. Thus, the apparatus is designed so as to have a recording section simplified and reduced in size, and to reduce the maintenance and running cost. A method of erasing a rewritable record enables images to be erased completely or suitably in terms of practice and enables formation of high-quality image after erasing of the previous image.

A coloring agent carrying medium comprises a heat-resistant flexible substrate having a front surface, a plurality of transfer ink films formed on the front surface of the heat-resistant substrate at spacings and containing a pigment transferred to a recording medium upon application of heat, and a plurality of sublimation ink films formed on the front surface of the heat-resistant substrate between the transfer ink films and containing dyestuffs and at least one binder mainly composed of a crosslinked product of polyvinyl alcohol, and the binder allows the dyestuffs to penetrate into the recording medium without leaving from the heat-resistant flexible substrate.

Coloring agent carrying medium used in two-phase thermal recording system

Thermal transfer material which is adopted for use in transferring an image of high resistances to wear, water and chemicals on a plastic base such as pre-paid card, coupon card and the like. The thermal transfer material comprises a heat-resistant support and a thermal transfer recording layer stacked on the support. The thermal transfer recording layer comprises a coloring agent, a hot-melt material comprising a thermoplastic resin having a glass transition point of 50 to 110.degree. C., and a lubricant. There is also proposed a recording material adopted for use in combination with the thermal transfer material. The recording material comprises a support and an image-receiving layer formed on the support and comprising a lubricating agent and a thermoplastic resin having a glass transition point of 50.degree. to 110.degree. C. A method of transfer-recording using the thermal transfer material and the recording material is also proposed.

A diazotype heat development recording medium of the present invention has excellent shelf life and heat sensitivity. The medium comprises a support and a recording layer which is formed on said support and which comprises a diazo compound, a coupler, an acid stabilizer, a thermal developer, and a polymeric binder. The thermal developer is a salt of an organic or inorganic acid having a primary dissociation constant of 2.times.10.sup.-1 to 1.times.10.sup.-4 and an alkyl-substituted guanidine represented by the general formula: ##STR1## (wherein at least one of R1 and R2 is an alkyl group of C.sub.8 to C.sub.24, and the other of R1 and R2 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of C.sub.1 or more).
