A ratchet-type one-way clutch mechanism . The mechanism has an inner race member with a plurality of notches , an outer member with a plurality of pockets , a plurality of pawl members positioned in the pockets for engagement with the notches, and spring biasing members for biasing the pawl members toward engagement. The outer member can be a stator member or an outer race member . Retainer members retain the pawls axially in the pockets. Bearing surfaces on the inner race member, outer member and retainer member provide bearing support. Large radii R on the pawl members and pawl pockets reduce wear and minimize the cost of secondary machining operations. The lower surfaces of the pawl members are curved and the curvature R can be larger than the curvature R of the inner race member. Also, the inner race members can be made of a plurality of thin disk members stacked and secured together, with various types of disk members being utilized in the stack.

Ratchet clutch with bearing surfaces

A ratchet-type one-way clutch mechanism. The mechanism has an inner race member with a plurality of notches, an outer stator member with a plurality of pockets, a plurality of pawl members positioned in the pockets for engagement with the notches, and spring biasing members for biasing the pawl members toward engagement. The stator member is made from a non-ferrous material, such as aluminum or a plastic material. The pawl members have pivot ridges which mate with peaks or recesses in the pockets in the outer member to precisely position the pawls in the pockets. The centers of mass of the pawl members are selectively positioned such that the pawl members will have a tendency to become engaged or disengaged with the notches in the inner member. The spring biasing members can be Z-shaped springs, garter springs, or the like.

Ratchet one-way clutch with stator

A plate and facing assembly (10), including a plate (12) and a facing (14) mounted on the plate. The facing (14) defines a substantially circular outer groove (20) and a substantially circular inner groove (22) spaced from the outer groove. The facing (14) defines a waved groove (24) between the outer and inner grooves (20, 22). The outer, inner and waved grooves (20, 22, 24) are interconnected by a plurality of flow grooves (28, 30, 32) defined by the facing (14). The grooves (20, 22, 24) interact to channel the flow of fluid.
