Systems and methods provide steering of roaming (SoR) information during a user equipment (UE) mobility registration process. In other systems and methods, instead of triggering mobility and periodic registration, a UE performs initial registration until a valid SoR is received in a visited country or network as long as a subscriber identification module (SIM) or a universal SIM (USIM) of the UE indicates that the UE is expected to receive SoR information due to initial registration in a visited public land mobile network (VPLMN).

Steering of roaming check during mobility registration

A user equipment (UE) is configured to transmit a first registration request to a network, receive a registration accept message in response to the first registration request comprising a rejected network slice and an indication of a rejection cause corresponding to the rejected network slice and transmit a second registration request to the network comprising a requested network slice, wherein the requested network slice and the rejected network slice are a same network slice.

Network slice allocation and network slice rejection

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for SoR list management and PLMN selection based on an SoR list. A UE may receive an SoR container which may include a list of OPLMNs. The UE may store a prior list of OPLMNs stored on a USIM of the UE on a memory of the UE. The UE replace the prior list of OPLMNs stored on the USIM with the list of OPLMNs included in the SoR container. The UE may consider the prior list of OPLMNs as a lower priority list as compared to the list of OPLMNs stored on the USIM. Additionally, in response to determining to move from a current PLMN, the UE may scan for a new PLMN based on the list of OPLMNs stored on the USIM.

Steering of roaming PLMN list update and management

Techniques discussed herein facilitate configuration of network slices for a User Equipment (UE) supporting constraints on simultaneous operation of slices. Such a technique may comprise: receiving a registration request message to request registration on a set of requested network slices; registering the UE to a set of allowed network slices; and generating a registration accept message for transmission indicating the UE is registered to the set of allowed network slices, wherein the registration accept message indicates slice compatibility information for each allowed network slice of the set of allowed network slices for the UE, wherein the slice compatibility information for each allowed network slice indicates whether or not other configured network slices of a set of configured network slices are compatible with the configured network slice for simultaneous operation by the UE.

Network (NW) techniques for constraints on simultaneous use of network slices

A user equipment (UE) is configured to transmit a registration request to a first base station of a cellular wireless network, wherein the first base station operates on a first frequency band, the registration request including a first indication of one or more preferred network slices and receive a registration response from the first base station, the registration response including (i) a second indication of whether the one or more preferred network slices are accessible on the first frequency band and (ii) a third indication of where the UE can access any unsupported one or ones of the one or more preferred network slices.

Some aspects of this disclosure relate to apparatuses and methods for implementing techniques for support recovering service in a radio access technology (RAT) for a multi-mode user equipment (UE). The UE can be registered to communicate in a first RAT, and the UE is in an idle mode, and the UE is in a disable mode with respect to communication in the second RAT. A cell selection for the second RAT can be performed. Afterwards, a registration procedure with a wireless communication system to communicate in the second RAT can be performed. Hence, the UE can receive wireless service from the wireless communication system through a base station associated with the second RAT.

Recovering service in a radio access technology (RAT) for a multi-mode user equipment

Techniques discussed herein facilitate configuration of network slices for a User Equipment (UE) supporting constraints on simultaneous operation of slices. This disclosure relates to techniques for performing wireless communications in context of unified access control. A UE may enter an update needed state. The UE may detect a pending communication. The UE may access the network using an access category associated with the pending communication. The UE may complete the update.

Unified access control improvements

User equipment devices (UEs) and methods are described for performing single network slice selection assistance information (S-NSSAI)-aware public land mobile network (PLMN) selection in a roaming scenario. A mapping list is received that includes a mapping of a plurality of public land mobile networks (PLMNs) to corresponding S-NSSAI values. The mapping list is received from a home PLMN (HPLMN) of the UE over non-3rd generation partnership (non-3GPP) access, from a server, or from a Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service (UMTS) subscriber identity module (USIM) of the UE. An available PLMN is determined that is mapped to a preferred S-NSSAI value of the UE based on the mapping list. A connection is established with the available PLMN.

Enhanced network slicing for public land mobile network selection while roaming

Emergency services support is indicated to roaming devices in a wireless network. A user equipment (UE) may receive a message from the wireless network indicating at least one public land mobile network (PLMN) that provides emergency services support for devices in limited service. The UE may store, in a non-volatile memory (NVM), an identifier of the at least one PLMN in a whitelist of limited service emergency services support. In response to a trigger in a roaming limited service condition of the UE, the UE may establish an emergency session with a selected PLMN based on the whitelist of limited service emergency services support.

Systems and methods to indicate emergency services support for roaming users

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for reducing wireless device service interruptions. An indication of a disaster condition may be provided to a wireless device. The disaster condition may affect a home public land mobile network of the wireless device. The wireless device may perform cell selection in a manner influenced by the indication of the disaster condition. This may include considering cells associated with a forbidden public land mobile network for the cell selection, or excluding cells associated with the home public land mobile network of the wireless device that are unavailable, for example due to the disaster condition, among various possibilities.

Reducing wireless device service interruptions

A user equipment (UE) may perform a UE parameter update (UPU) procedure or a steering of roaming (SoR) procedure based on information received from a home public land mobile network (HPLMN). The UE receives, from a network component, an update container comprising updated parameters for the UE and a counter value associated with the update container, compares the counter value with a stored value and performs an action related to the update container based on at least the comparison of the counter value with the stored value.

Updating user equipment parameters

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive a first authentication request in response to a first triggering request from the UE to a mobility management node of a first Tracking Area (TA) in which the UE is located. In some embodiments, the UE may prepare and store an authentication response according to the first authentication request. In response to determining that the UE has moved from the first TA to a second TA, the UE may abort a sending of the authentication response, and may send the stored authentication response according to the first authentication request to the mobility management node of the second TA in response to the receipt of the second authentication request and in further response to a determination that a given parameter of each of the first and second authentication requests are the same.

Disclosed are embodiments for disabling N1 mode in response to several scenarios including an S-NSSAI failure, searching NR PLMNs after a loss of coverage in an attempt to maintain network slices, and triggering a UE to reattempt authentication of a rejected S-NSSAI when authentication credentials change and the UE either has N1 mode enabled or is camped on LTE PLMN that might be the same as the NR PLMN through which the S-NSSAI was rejected.
