The invention relates to a cable connector including a housing having a die-cast base substantially extending between a front side and a rear side of the connector. The connector further includes a die-cast first housing part mounted to the die-cast base such that the die-cast first housing part and a first portion of the die-cast base determine a first cable connector portion at the rear side. The cable connector further includes a metal sheet formed second housing part mounted to the die-cast base such that the metal sheet formed second housing part and a second portion of the die-cast base determine a second cable connector portion at the front side. The cable connector is suited as a high density I/O cable connector. The invention further relates to a method of assembling a cable to such a cable connector and a metal sheet formed housing part.

Hold-down element for electrical and/or electronic components

Methods and apparatus are disclosed for manufacturing and for providing electrical connectors having maximum shielding from electronic interference. Maximum shielding is inexpensively achieved by manufacturing a shield structure from a single piece of material in a manner yielding individual channels for shielding a contact terminal from the receptacle area to the tail area. Contact terminals are integrated into the shield structure via insertion molding to form a column connector module. A plurality of column connector modules are then inserted into an appropriately formed front housing. As described by the method of this invention, shielding from electronic interference occurs not only between adjacent terminals within a column structure, but also, between terminals contained in adjacent column connector modules.

A combination of a bending mandrel (29), an anvil (15) and an electrical connector(1). The bending mandrel (29) of this combination has a bending face (35) and the anvil (15) of this combination has a curved bending face (18). The electrical connector (1) of the combination has a housing (2) of electrically insulating material with a connection side (13), a connection pin output side (11) and a contact side (8) and is provided with a number of contact elements (6) of electrically conducting material accommodated in channels (5). Each contact elements has a contact end (7) situated at the contact side (8) of the housing (2), for contacting a further connector. They each also have a connection end provided with an L-shaped connection pin (9). These pins each have a fixed leg (10) fixed to the connection end of the contact element (6) extending from the connection pin output side (11) of the housing (2) lying opposite the contact side (8), a bend and a free leg (12) for mounting on a printed circuit board substantially perpendicular to the fixed leg (10). The outward facing bending face (18) of the bending anvil and the bending face (35) of the mandrel complement each other in shape and interact to bend the connection pins (9) of the connector into a generally L-shaped configuration.

Right-angle connector

An electrical connector with plug contact elements of plate material is disclosed. The electrical connector comprises a housing of electrically insulating material, provided with at least one contact element of electrically conducting material designed as a plug contact. The plug contact is made up of two substantially oppositely spaced elongated plate parts. An end of each plate part is fixedly connected to a base part of the connector, while free ends of the plate parts are in physical contact. The contact element may be secured in a channel of the housing by a lip-shaped member fixedly joined in a resilient manner to the base part. The contact element is provided with a terminal end adapted for electrically interfacing with other electrical components. A method of making the contact element as a whole by a single punching process from a sheet of electrically conducting material is also disclosed.

The connector system comprises first and second connectors (2,1), each adapted for association with a substrate (30, 31, 86, 97). The first connector (2) comprises a plurality of male contact elements (44, 84, 96) arranged to extend perpendicular to the first substrate. The second connector (1) having a housing (5) with a planar upper wall having holes (52) for providing access to female contact elements (3) adapted to engage the male contact elements (44, 84, 96).

Connector provided with an insulating housing and a plurality of electrically conductive contact members each of said contact members (2, 3; 26; 42; 47) being made of a metal layer arranged on a predetermined insulating part of said connector. This metal layer may be arranged on plastic contact pins or, alternatively, be made of metal strips arranged on the housing (4; 24; 41) of said connector.
