A displacement-generating battery cell for driving a drug-delivery device is described. The cell may include at least one volume-changing element. The cell may include a housing formed according to a concertina-shaped design with folds in the walls thereof and may contain an internal chemical reaction system. The chemical reaction system may include an electrode. The electrode may be the volume-changing element. The arrangement of said chemical reaction system may be such that an expansion of the volume-changing element in a direction lengthens the cell and thus reduces the extent of the folds. Drug-delivery devices including the displacement-generating battery cell are also described.

A drug-delivery device comprising a drug-reservoir assembly, displacement-generating actuator, and drug administration unit is described, wherein the drug-reservoir assembly comprises at least one flexible wall and a constraining ring, such that the displacement generated by the actuator collapses a flexible wall of the assembly expelling the drug contents of the drug-reservoir towards said drug administration means.

A bicycle pedal assembly includes a crank arm, one end of which is pivotally connected to a propulsion axle of a bicycle and another end of which is pivotally connected to a first pivot at one end of an auxiliary crank arm. A pedal is connected to another end of the auxiliary crank arm and a pedal tilt limiter is coupled to the pedal and configured to limit tilt or rotation of the pedal.

A disposable cartridge may have a fluid analysis chip for receiving a fluid to be analyzed. The fluid analysis chip may be attached to a fluid preparation unit of the disposable cartridge and may include a base layer. The fluid analysis chip may also include a spacer layer disposed over the base layer, the spacer layer including a microchannel formed therein, the microchannel being configured to guide a flow of the fluid to be analyzed within the fluid analysis chip. The fluid analysis chip may also include a cap layer disposed over the spacer layer, the cap layer including an inlet and an outlet for establishing fluid communication with the microchannel included in the spacer layer, and an interface layer disposed over the cap layer, the interface layer being configured to attach the fluid analysis chip to the fluid preparation unit of the disposable cartridge.

Embodiments may include a method of delivering a drug. The method may include removing or releasing a structure from a patch-pump assembly. The patch-pump assembly may include a sealed prefilled drug-reservoir, a fluid passageway, a cannula-containing assembly, and a penetrator. The method may also include penetrating the sealed prefilled drug-reservoir containing the drug to establish fluid communication between the sealed prefilled drug-reservoir and a fluid passageway by removing or releasing the structure. The method may further include flowing the drug from the prefilled drug-reservoir to the fluid passageway. In addition, the method may include flowing the drug from the fluid passageway to a cannula-containing assembly. Furthermore, the method may include delivering the drug subcutaneously to a subject using the cannula-containing assembly.

Fluid-connection mechanism and methods for patch-pumps

Embodiments of the present invention provide drug-delivery devices comprising a drug reservoir chamber containing a substance to be delivered, in fluid connection with a drug administration means, and at least one displacement-generating battery cell coupled to said drug reservoir chamber by a coupling means, the at least one displacement-generating battery cell comprising an element that changes shape as a result of discharge of the battery cell so as to cause a displacement within the battery unit, the arrangement being such that the displacement derived from said battery unit is conveyed by said coupling means to cause displacement of at least a portion of a wall of said drug reservoir chamber reducing the volume of said drug reservoir chamber such that said substance is expelled from said drug reservoir chamber towards said drug administration means upon discharge, thereby being a self-powered drug delivery device.

The present invention provides a selectively activatable patch-pump assembly, said patch-pump assembly comprising: &#x2022; a sealed prefilled drug-reservoir containing a drug to be delivered; &#x2022; an associated conduit in connection therewith; &#x2022; a selectively activatable penetrator which penetrates said sealed prefilled drug-reservoir and facilitates drug access to said conduit; and &#x2022; a selectively activatable, associated, cannula-containing assembly for delivering a drug subcutaneously to a subject, in fluid connection with said conduit; wherein a selective activation-step initiates penetration of said sealed prefilled drug-reservoir, drug access from said drug-reservoir to said conduit, drug access from said conduit to said cannula-containing assembly and delivery from said cannula-containing assembly, thereby being a selectively activatable patch-pump assembly.

The device comprises a container, filled with an impedance matching medium, and an ultrasound transducer element coupled to the container, such that ultrasound waves are generated by the transducer element in the impedance matching medium. The device further comprises a hair receiving element having at least one opening for receiving hair shafts, wherein a height of the opening is approximately an integer multiplication of half a wavelength of the ultrasound waves.
