The present disclosure is directed to compact packaging for optical MEMS devices, such as one- and two-dimensional light scanners. An embodiment in accordance with the present disclosure includes a housing having a chamber for holding a light source and a MEMS scanner. The MEMS scanner receives light from the light source via an optical element disposed on a cover of the housing and steers an output signal along a propagation direction through the cover while steering the output signal in at least one dimension.

Advanced packaging for compact object-scanning modules

Systems and methods for monitoring the instantaneous position of a scanning element of a light scanner via an optical-feedback signal are disclosed, where the optical-feedback signal is a portion of a light signal being steered in a two-dimensional pattern by the light scanner. The optical-feedback signal is detected by a position monitor that provides a commensurate feedback signal. In some embodiments, the feedback signal is used to develop a transfer function for the light scanner via a calibration routine. In some embodiments, the feedback signal is used in a closed-loop driving scheme used to drive the light scanner. Embodiments in accordance with the present disclosure are particularly well suited for use in object tracking systems, such as eye trackers.

Systems and methods for performing eye tracking using a scanning light signal with low power consumption are disclosed herein. Power consumption is reduced by intelligent disabling and re-enabling of non-imaging photodetector(s) and/or light source(s). In one embodiment, the scan region is contracted to a single feature of the eye (e.g., the pupil, a glint, etc.) in view of a particular type of event of interest to detect.

Methods and systems for low-power eye tracking

The OLED voltage of a selected pixel is extracted from the pixel produced when the pixel is programmed so that the pixel current is a function of the OLED voltage. One method for extracting the OLED voltage is to first program the pixel in a way that the current is not a function of OLED voltage, and then in a way that the current is a function of OLED voltage. During the latter stage, the programming voltage is changed so that the pixel current is the same as the pixel current when the pixel was programmed in a way that the current was not a function of OLED voltage. The difference in the two programming voltages is then used to extract the OLED voltage.

Systems and methods for determining the resonant frequencies of at least one axis of a two-axis resonant light scanner based on a measured resistance of at least a portion of one of the axes are disclosed. Precise knowledge of the resonant frequencies of each axis enables quasi-closed-loop operation of a light scanner, wherein the resonant frequencies of its axes can be periodically updated to ensure the proper drive frequencies are used. Furthermore, by determining the relationship between the measured resistance and scanner angle, calibration of the scanner is facilitated and even enabled at the wafer level during fabrication. In some cases, it also enables real-time monitoring of scanner position. Scanners in accordance with the present disclosure are suitable for use in any application that requires one or more reflective elements that can be scanned or steered in at least one dimension.

Aspects of the present disclosure describe systems, methods, and structures that provide eye-tracking by 1) steering a beam of light through the effect of a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) onto a surface of the eye and 2) detecting light reflected from features of the eye including corneal surface, pupil, iris&#x2014;among others. Positional/geometric/feature/structural information pertaining to the eye is determined from timing information associated with the reflected light.

The present disclosure describes systems and methods that enable eye-tracking by steering a light signal in a high-density Lissajous pattern over a region of an eye and detecting light reflected from the eye using a non-imaging photodetector configuration. The light signal is scanned by driving each axis of a two-axis MEMS scanner with a periodic signal having a frequency that is based on the resonant frequency of that axis. By choosing periodic signals having frequencies that give rise to precession of the Lissajous pattern at a high rate, a high-density scan pattern is quickly generated, thereby enabling eye tracking with high spatial resolution and low latency.

Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode (AMOLED) displays exhibit differences in luminance on a pixel to pixel basis, primarily as a result of process or construction inequalities, or from aging caused by operational use over time. To facilitate image correction, the initial non-uniformity correction data is obtained using methods, such as electrical measurement or a combination of electrical and optical measurement. Typically, the correction data is then stored on a non-volatile-memory chip on the display module itself. The proposed invention offers an alternate method for storing and loading the image correction data, thereby eliminating the need for memory chip in the display module.

The present disclosure is directed to compact packaging for optical MEMS devices, such as one- and two-dimensional beam scanners. An embodiment in accordance with the present disclosure includes a light source and a MEMS-based scanning element for steering at least a portion of the light provided by the light source in at least one dimension as an output light signal, as well as one or more optical elements for collimating and/or redirecting light within a sealed chamber defined by the elements of a housing. In some embodiments, the one or more optical elements include a reflective lens that collimates the light provided by the light source while simultaneously correcting phase-front error imparted by the scanning element while steering the output beam.

A system for equalizing the pixels in an array of pixels that include semiconductor devices that age differently under different ambient and stress conditions. The system extracts at least one pixel parameter from the array; creates a stress pattern for the array, based on the extracted pixel parameter; stresses the pixels in accordance with the stress pattern; extracts the pixel parameter from the stressed pixels; determines whether the pixel parameter extracted from the stressed pixels is within a preselected range and, when the answer is negative, creates a second stress pattern for the array, based on the pixel parameter extracted from the stressed pixels, stresses the pixels in accordance with the second stress pattern, extracts the pixel parameter from the stressed pixels, and determines whether the pixel parameter extracted from the stressed pixels is within the preselected range.
