A method for performing a search in a browser is provided. The method includes receiving one or more keywords entered in a current search engine and searching data from the current search engine based on the entered keywords. The method also includes displaying a search engine results page from the current search engine to a user and displaying alternative search engines when detecting that an operation event of the user in the search engine results page meets preset switching criteria. Further, the method includes extracting a search web address template corresponding to an alternative search engine selected by the user and loading the entered keywords into the search web address template corresponding to the selected alternative search engine to search data from the alternative search engine. In addition, the method includes displaying a search engine results page from the selected alternative search engine.

The method comprises monitoring the page browsing mode of a browser while running the browser; determining a changed page browsing mode, if the page browsing mode of the browser is changed; and displaying a tips button on the current page of the browser, if the changed page browsing mode is a specified mode. Examples of sensing a gesture with respect to a touch input device are described. For example, a method to sense a gesture may include acquiring a distance between a finger, which may not be in contact with the touch input device, and at least two heat sensing spots on the touch input device. The acquired distances may be compared to identify the shortest distance. The gesture of the finger toward the touch input device may be identified based on the shortest distance being less than a predetermined threshold. The described techniques and examples may improve overall performance of system that may be equipped with the touch input device.
