Provided are methods and systems for selectively communicating data between a source device and one or more sink devices. The method includes generating a selection signal based on received configuration data associated with the sink device(s). Based at least in part on the selection signal, the data can be caused to be selectively provided to the sink device(s) by the first device. The data includes Universal Serial Bus (USB) protocol data, uncompressed high definition media data, or a combination thereof. In forward connections, the data may be provided variously at one of the following rates: 2.7 Gbps, 5.4 Gbps, 3.375 Gbps, and 6.75 Gbps. At 6.75 Gbps, the data may include a combination of USB data and audio/video data (having high resolution high definition video) or just standalone audio/video data (having higher resolution high definition video). In backward connections, the data includes USB data and can be transferred at either 2.7 Gbps and 3.375 Gbps.

Protocol for digital audio-video interface

A system and corresponding method for transferring data via an interface assembly is provided. The data is transferred between a USB port of a first device and a media port of a second device. Uncompressed high definition media data may be received from the USB port. The received uncompressed high definition media data may be supplied to a media connector in accordance with a first media standard, such that the supplied data can be transmitted in accordance with the first media standard via the media connector to the media port of the second device. The uncompressed high definition media data may include multimedia data and side-band communication data. A single signal may be encoded and decoded in accordance with a protocol that enables the single signal to communicate all side-band communications to and from the source device via a single pin of a USB connector.

Transfer of uncompressed multimedia contents or data communications

Provided are cables for transmitting media data from media transmitters to receivers and methods of using such cables for charging the transmitters. In certain embodiments, power for such charging may be obtained by the cable from the media receiver during media data transmission and may be recycled back to the transmitter. In other embodiments, charging may be performed while no media data is transmitted. Power may be supplied by a media receiver still connected to the cable, by an external power source, or both devices simultaneously. A cable may be configured to prevent an automatic shutdown of the media receiver due to lack of media data transmission and to, thereby, maintain the receiver as a power source. Specifically, a cable may generate screen saver data and transmit this data to the receiver. The cable may include a converter board for providing various functions.

Intelligent cable mechanism

A remote controller for a mobile device is described. The remote controller includes a communications transceiver configured for bidirectional communications with the mobile device, and a computer processing system communicatively coupled to the communications transceiver. The computer processing system may be configured to execute instructions to remotely control one or more applications associated with the mobile device. Examples of applications include media playback applications, software updating applications, and the like. The remote controller may also include one or more actuators communicatively coupled to the computer processing system, the one or more actuators being configured to receive user input to control or access the one or more applications. Additionally, the remote controller may include a screen.

Remote controller for mobile device

Embodiments include systems and methods of powering a mobile device using a sink device. The method may include detecting a coupling of the mobile device to the sink device and transmitting an acknowledgement in response to a query, the acknowledgement confirming that the sink device has charging capability. Power may be selectively provided in response to the power request. According to some embodiments, the method includes transmitting a query by a communications transmitter to determine if a sink device has charging capability, and deactivating a driver for a power line and transmitting a power request using the communications transmitter in response to receiving an acknowledgement signal from the sink device. The method may further include selectively providing power received from the sink device to a charging circuit of the mobile device. The mobile device may include an HDMI transmitter for communicating through a transmission line to an HDMI sink device.

Systems and methods for powering a charging circuit of a communications interface

Systems and methods for charging a mobile device using a high-speed data interface are described. Power may be provided from Transition Minimized Differential Signaling (TMDS) lines when TMDS data is transmitted via a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) connection between a transmitter, such as a mobile device, and a receiving device. Power may be provided to the mobile device in exemplary embodiments such that when the transmitter is in idle or power down state, power may be provided from TMDS lines as part of an upstream charging function.

Battery charging via high speed data interface

Provided are devices and methods for transmitting two or more data streams through the same cable. An exemplary cable includes at least two sets of conductive points, each set capable of independently transmitting a separate data stream. The cable may be a USB 2.0 type cable, with two contacts assigned for transmitting one data stream, and two other contacts assigned for transmitting another data stream. In some embodiments, one data stream is an audio-video signal transmitted to an audio-video receiver.

Devices and methods for multiple data streams over USB 2.0

Provided are cables for transmitting media data between media transmitters and receivers. A cable includes an integrated circuit for performing this data transmission and, in certain embodiments, various other functions. The integrated circuit may be enclosed in a base member used to support one of the connectors of the cable. The cable also includes a flexible member extending between this base member and another connector. A portion of the cable protrudes into the base member and makes electrical connections to conductive points of the integrated circuit or, more specifically, to conductive points on a connection pad of the circuit. The cable is rigidly supported and mechanically secured to the base member to preserve these electrical connections, particularly when mechanical stress is applied to the flexible member. In certain embodiments, the base member includes one or more notch members and/or enclosure members to ensure this support.

Reinforced intelligent cables

A system and corresponding method for selectively communicating data between a first device and a second device is provided. An indication of a configuration of the second device is received by the first device. A selection signal is generated based on the configuration. Universal Serial Bus (USB) protocol data, uncompressed high definition media data, or a combination thereof may be caused to be selectively supplied to the second device by the first device based on the selection signal. The first device may be configured to transmit, on a DisplayPort link to the second device, a data flow comprising both USB protocol data and uncompressed high definition media data signals. The devices may be configured such that the USB protocol data is transferred from the second device to the first device during a video blanking period associated with the uncompressed high definition media data signals.

Transfer of uncompressed multimedia contents and data communications

Multiple video streams can be transmitted over a high speed link. A connection with a receiver can be detected by a transmitter. The transmitter can then establish a link with the receiver. Multiple streams of video data can be packed into a transfer unit. The transmitter can then transmit the transfer unit with the multiple stream video data over one or more lanes of the link to the receiver. A high speed communications link between a receiver and a transmitter can transmit data for multiple video streams over a single lane within a data link. The high speed communication link is scalable in bandwidth and video/audio streams transmitted, and backward compatible with other types of video data communication connections. The high speed link may support up to eight video/audio streams simultaneously, thereby enabling full use of data link bandwidth.

Multi-stream digital display interface

High-Definition Multimedia Interface Specification, Version 1.2, supports multiple video formats. Currently the HDMI sources and sinks support multiple formats through reconfiguration of the system. The present invention describes the use of a configurable 'n'&#xd7;'n' data pixel mapping matrix for video format conversion. This mapping matrix allows the mapping of any existing video format to any other existing or future video format and allows flexibility of connectivity to any transmitter or receiver. Accordingly a more user friendly implementation that provides greater flexibility for development and use of new formats in video applications is shown.

Method and apparatus for video format conversion

A system and corresponding method for transferring data. Data may be selectively communicated via a USB port of a device. An indication of a device type may be received at the USB port from an external interface. USB protocol data or uncompressed high definition media data may be caused to be selectively supplied to the USB port as a function of the indication. The selected data may be transmitted via the USB port to an external interface. The uncompressed high definition media data may include at least one lane of media data or multimedia data in accordance with a DisplayPort standard. In some embodiments, either USB protocol data or multimedia data comprising audio data and uncompressed high definition video data may be caused to be selectively supplied to the USB port as a function of the indication. The indication may be a data format signal.

Dual-mode data transfer of uncompressed multimedia contents or data communications

The present invention provides a method and mechanism for data recovery with phase synchronized clock using interpolator and timing loop module and a data latching circuit. The interpolator can be considered as a programmable delay circuit with a specified delay resolution over the clock period.

Clock data recovery (CDR) system using interpolator and timing loop module

The present invention provides a method and mechanism for adapting a single phase-locked loop (PLL) for a wider range of frequencies than has been possible with prior art solutions. An analog comparator circuit that senses the output of a charge pump and provides a signal to a digital control circuit to choose a suitable load circuit for the PLL voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). The analog comparator with the digital control circuit changes the VCO loads to select the best VCO range to achieve the incoming signal frequency lock. A single PLL with the VCO load selection method disclosed, with use of built-in hysteresis, in addition to the phase and frequency feedback of the prior art, allows multiple overlapping frequency ranges to be covered in a stable fashion. This enables frequency locking of the PLL over a wide range of frequencies with a small die size and low power consumption.
