This document describes methods, devices, systems, and means for a switching scheme for opting in and out of multi-user orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (MU-OFDMA). In one aspect, an electronic device enters the MU-OFDMA mode to communicate via a wireless network over a shared-channel bandwidth. During the MU-OFDMA mode, the electronic device determines that an uplink-queue size is greater than a first threshold size. Responsive to the determining, the electronic device opts out of the MU-OFDMA mode and enters a single-user mode to contend for a transmit channel for transmitting uplink data.

Switching scheme for opting in and out of multi-user orthogonal frequency-division multiple access

This document describes methods, devices, systems, and means for the provisioning of enrollee Wi-Fi devices to a Wi-Fi network. Many Wi-Fi devices have limited or no user interface capabilities, which presents challenges to connecting and, especially, securely connecting many of these devices to a Wi-Fi network. Techniques are described to enhance the Device Provisioning Protocol to solicit and provide feedback from an enrollee device to indicate band support of the enrollee device and provide the status of the enrollee device after attempting to join a provisioned Wi-Fi network.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. In some systems (e.g., Wi-Fi systems), a transmitting device such as an access point (AP) or mobile station (STA), may identify a number of spatial streams for a data transmission that is less than a number of transmit antennas, and may transmit a packet over a channel. In a first implementation, the packet may be formatted in a multi-user frame format, with a number of long training field (LTF) symbols equal to the number of transmit antennas. In a second implementation, the packet may be a null data packet (NDP), and the device may transmit a separate data packet. In a third implementation, the packet may be formatted in single-user frame format with a modified LTF. A receiving device may receive the packet, and may perform channel estimation and power amplifier (PA) distortion cancellation based on the received packet.

Transmitter schemes to facilitate side channel information estimation

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer-readable media, for enabling a client device to learn characteristics of one or more access points in a wireless network used by the client device. In addition to learning the characteristics of the access point, the client device also can learn its own hardware characteristics, its usage profile, its environmental operation condition, its user preferences, and its computing context. The client devices uses the learned characteristics to realize computing efficiencies based on dynamic configuration of wireless network settings at the client device.

Mobile device configuration for wireless networks

Methods and apparatus allow a mobile device to proactively switch to a new network by using quality of connection information and the rate of change of the received signal strength indication (RSSI) to proactively switch from a first network, such as a WiFi network, to the new network, such as another WiFi network or a cellular network. For example, the mobile device determines a rate of change of the RSSI for the first network. Based on the rate of change of the RSSI, the mobile device predicts when the RSSI of the network is beyond a quality threshold. Based on the prediction, the mobile device switches from the first network to a second network. In another example, the method and device uses a quality of connection of the first network connection to determine when to switch from a first network connection to a second network connection.

Methods and apparatus for proactively switching between available networks

Apparatuses and methods for correcting a distorted signal at a receiver device during wireless local area network (WLAN) communications are disclosed. The apparatuses and methods include receiving, by a receiver device in a WLAN, a distorted signal corresponding to a data packet signal transmitted from a transmitter device, receiving, by the receiver device, one or more transmitter parameters corresponding to the transmission of the data packet signal, the one or more transmitter parameters including information to adjust the distorted signal, and adjusting, by the receiver device, the distorted signal to reconstruct the data packet signal based at least on the one or more transmitter parameters.

Techniques for distortion correction at a receiver device

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatuses for detecting motion based on wireless signals. In some implementations, a receiving device may receive, from a transmitting device, a packet containing a sequence. In some aspects, the packet may be a Bluetooth packet, and the sequence may be contained in a supplemental information appended to the Bluetooth packet. The receiving device may estimate angle information of the packet based on the sequence, and determine a difference between the estimated angle information and a reference angle. The angle information may be an angle of arrival (AoA) or an angle of departure (AoD) of the packet. The receiving device may detect motion based on the determined difference.

Methods, apparatus, and computer-readable media for wireless communication may involve techniques for throughput estimation. An expected air time parameter may be used as a parameter for estimating throughput. The expected air time parameter may be indicative of an estimated air time fraction obtainable for communications using an access point (AP), for example, between a wireless station (STA) and the AP. Either the expected air time parameter or an estimated air time fraction determined (e.g., calculated) from the expected air time parameter may be transmitted from the AP to the STA (or other communication device) to allow the STA (or other communication device) to determine an estimated throughput for communications using the AP.

Wireless local area network throughput estimation

Generally, the described techniques provide for protection mechanisms for sounding training signals transmitted between wireless devices when performing ranging sounding estimation. For example, sounding training signals may be encoded to include a sequence of phase rotations or cyclic shifts to protect the sounding training signal from peer devices. In some cases, encoding information associated with a long training field (LTF) may be transmitted either before or after the LTF is transmitted. Additionally or alternatively, a time delay may be introduced to the sounding training signal, where timing information may be removed from one or more fields of the sounding training signal and the time delay may be appended to an interframe spacing. Alternatively, a frame may be split into multiple frames with the sounding training signal in a first frame, and timing information in a second frame that is offset in time from the first frame.

Protection of ranging sounding signals from physical level attacks

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. An access point (AP) may switch antenna array configurations during reception of a packet to determine channel characteristic information for the antenna array configurations. The AP may use the channel characteristic information to select an antenna array configuration for use, and to determine a beamforming steering matrix for the selected antenna array configuration. In some cases, the AP may use multiple antenna array configurations to transmit training fields in the preamble of a packet. The AP may receive channel characteristic information for each of the antenna array configurations. The AP may use the channel characteristic information to select an antenna array configuration for use, and to determine a beamforming steering matrix for the selected antenna array configuration.

Enhanced antenna array training

A method for sending data includes receiving, at a first station of a plurality of stations, a trigger frame from an access point of a wireless network. The method also includes determining a downlink channel estimation based on the trigger frame and sending the downlink channel estimation to the access point. The method further includes receiving uplink channel data from the access point in response to sending the downlink channel estimation. The method also includes sending data to the access point based on the uplink channel data.

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatuses for selecting a guard interval for transmission of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols on an uplink (UL) channel and on a downlink (DL) channel. In some implementations, a transmitting device and a receiving device can estimate channel delay spread (CDS) information for each other's transmit channels, exchange the estimated CDS information with each other, and select a guard interval based on the estimated CDS information exchanged with each other. The transmitting device can transmit a number of OFDM symbols separated by the selected guard interval to the receiving device on the UL channel, and the receiving device can transmit a number of OFDM symbols separated by the selected guard interval to the transmitting device on the DL channel.
