A method to regenerate and reactivate catalysts used for a carbon and syngas production reaction including a DRM or CARGEN reaction is developed. Carbon dioxide (CO) is used as the regeneration and activation media. This method of a single step regeneration and activation using COis more effective than the existing conventional two-step process that includes separate reduction and oxidation steps. This method produces pure carbon monoxide (CO) as a byproduct from the regeneration process by utilizing COand carbon.

Regeneration and activation of catalysts for carbon and syngas production

Catalysts for converting carbon dioxide and methane to synthesis gas include an alumina supported copper-nickel alloy composition having the formula NiCu. The catalyst comprises about 70% to about 98% by weight of alumina in the catalyst, wherein x is an atomic percentage nickel content and y is an atomic percentage copper content, and wherein a ratio of x to y is about 3:1 to about 10:1. In one embodiment, the Ni—Cu catalyst composition according to the present disclosure is derived by state of the art electronic structure calculations based on Density Functional Theory (DFT).

Catalysts for converting carbon dioxide and methane to synthesis gas

A method for processing methane includes processing methane in presence of a carbon dioxide stream, whereby a synthesis gas including carbon monoxide and hydrogen is produced. The synthesis gas is contacted with a carbon monoxide-absorbing solution, thereby removing at least a portion of the carbon monoxide and producing a final synthesis gas having an increased ratio of hydrogen to carbon monoxide.

Processing methane for syngas production with reduced COemissions

Disclosed is a high yield, high selectivity and high conversion method to produce Dimethyl Carbonate (DMC) from carbon dioxide (CO) and methanol (MeOH) using optimized concentration of ethylene oxide as water scavenger. The method provides an alternative and optimized solution towards the problem of formation of water in DMC synthesis by reporting optimal feed ratio and scavenger to MeOH feed ratio. The disclosure also discloses an optimal pressure condition that could have significant impact on economy of compression of the feed to the DMC reactor.

Methods of producing dimethyl carbonate

The present subject matter is directed to a system and method for producing carbon and syngas from carbon dioxide (CO). The system includes a first reactor () for producing solid carbon () from a feed including COand a volatile organic compound such as methane (), and a second reactor () for producing syngas. Reactions in the first reactor () are conducted in a limited oxygen atmosphere. The second reactor () can use dry reforming, steam reforming, and/or partial oxidation reforming to produce the syngas ().
