Systems and methods are provided for provisioning of telecommunications signals in moving trains. A scattering panel configured for redirecting signals in a train system, with the scattering panel having a plurality of facets. The plurality of facets together may combine to provide a plurality of adjacent curved reflectors, with at least one facet of the plurality of facets facing in a different direction relative to at least one other facet of the plurality of facets, with at least one facet of the plurality of facets having one or more flat planar surfaces and at least one other facet of the plurality of facets having a curved surface portion, and with at least one facet of the plurality of facets having structures configured for modifying signals propagating over a surface of the at least one facet in at least one direction relative to the surface.

Methods and systems for provisioning of telecommunications signals in moving trains

A communication system and method for vehicles, particularly trains, are described with the vehicle having antenna sets. Each antenna set includes a plurality of antennas mounted onto a convex-shaped vehicle roof in which an axis of one antenna set is approximately perpendicular to an axis of another antenna set and in which the antenna sets are mounted below roof level of the convex-shaped vehicle roof. A switching device is operable to switch between a first antenna configuration and a second antenna configuration based on a difference in measured signal power received at the antenna sets. The first antenna configuration is associated with a first stationary communication system of the plurality of stationary communication systems and a second antenna configuration is associated with a second stationary communication system of the plurality of stationary communication systems.

Methods and systems for implementing and operating antennas, particularly multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antennas. An example antenna may include a planar dielectric substrate, a primary conductive area on a first surface of the planar dielectric substrate, a first secondary conductive area on the first surface, and a second secondary conductive area, and a ground plane on a second surface, on other side of the planar dielectric substrate. The primary conductive area may have a shape defining a first region of the first surface bounded by at least a portion of the primary conductive area, and a second region that includes a remaining portion of the first surface; a first secondary conductive area on the first surface, wherein the first secondary conductive area lies in the first region of the first surface. The second secondary conductive area may be provided on the first surface, and may lie in the second region.

Methods and systems for implementing and operating multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antennas for radio telecommunications

Methods and systems are provided for implementing and utilizing dual-polarized planar ultra-wideband antennas. A planar antenna may include a substrate, a monopole conductor, a first ground conductor, and a second ground conductor. The monopole conductor is connected to a first signal feeding line. The first ground conductor is connected to ground potential. The first ground conductor is further connected to a second signal feeding line. The second ground conductor is connected to ground potential. The second ground conductor is located on a side of the substrate.

Dual-polarized planar ultra-wideband antenna

Methods and systems for implementing and operating antennas, particularly multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antennas. An example antenna may include a planar dielectric substrate, a primary conductive area on a first surface of the planar dielectric substrate, a first secondary conductive area on the first surface, and a second secondary conductive area. The primary conductive area has a shape that defines at least a first region and a second region of the first surface, with the first region bounded by at least a portion of the primary conductive area, and the second region including a remaining portion of the first surface. The first secondary conductive area may lie in the first region of the first surface, and the second secondary conductive area may lie in the second region.

Methods and systems are provided for implementing and utilizing dual-polarized planar ultra-wideband antennas. An example planar antenna may include a substrate, a monopole conductor, a first ground conductor, and a second ground conductor. The monopole conductor may be connected to a first signal feeding line. The first ground conductor may be connected through a ground connector to ground potential. The first ground conductor may be further connected to a second signal feeding line. The second ground conductor may connected to ground potential located on a particular side of the substrate. The planar antenna may be configured to transmit and receive radiation in two mutually cross-polarized modes.

Systems and methods are provided for provisioning of telecommunications signals in moving trains. Scattering panels may be utilized for redirecting wireless signals, such as by scattering them, to provide better communication performance on the moving trains. The scattering panels may be configured to scatter the signals, such as by reflecting them. The scattering panels may be configured for operation in conjunction with a number of antennas that communicate the signals being scattered via the scattering panels.

Methods and systems for implementing and operating multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antennas

Methods and systems for implementing and operating antennas, particularly multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antennas, for radio telecommunications. An antenna configured for MIMO communications may comprise a planar dielectric substrate, a first conductive annulus on a first surface of the substrate, a first conductive land on the first surface, and a second conductive land provided on the first surface. The first conductive land may lie in a region of the first surface bounded by the first conductive annulus and an edge of the first conductive land that is adjacent to, and parallel to, a portion of an inward edge of the first conductive annulus. An edge of the second conductive land may be adjacent to, and parallel to, a portion of an outward edge of the first conductive annulus.

A multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) based vehicle-mounted system may include a first plurality of antennas and a second plurality of antennas, with an antenna of the first plurality having different polarization than an antenna of the second plurality, an antenna of the first plurality and an antenna of the second plurality having antenna patterns in a different direction relative to at least another antenna of the first plurality and another antenna of the second plurality, and an antenna pattern of one antenna of the first plurality and an antenna pattern of one antenna of the second plurality being directed at least approximately parallel to the path. A corresponding MIMO-based stationary system may include at least a first plurality of antennas and a second plurality of antennas, with radiation patterns of the first and second pluralities being configured to overlap within an area between the first and second pluralities.

MIMO communication system for vehicles

Methods and systems are provided for implementing and utilizing dual-polarized planar ultra-wideband antennas. An example planar antenna may include a substrate, a monopole conductor located on a first side of the substrate, a first ground conductor located on a second side of the substrate, and a second ground conductor located on the first side of the substrate. The monopole conductor may be connected to a first signal feeding line, the first ground conductor may be connected through a ground connector to ground potential, the first ground conductor may be connected to a second signal feeding line and, and the second ground conductor may be connected to ground potential located on the first side of the substrate. The planar antenna may be configured to form multiple sub-antennae during active operations. The planar antenna may also be configured to form a ring-antenna during operations.
