A method and apparatus for monitoring changes in temperature or strain, using fiber Bragg gratings (FBG). The Method and apparatus is advantageously useful for the measurement under harsh conditions, such as by combustion turbines. The invention uses the wavelength shift which is caused by temperature or strain changes at the FBG and the changing of the refraction index of the fiber.

A winding arrangement comprising at least one multi-layered winding body having a plurality of windings associated with a winding band and an optical waveguide, which is introduced therein or therethrough. The optical waveguide is wound into the winding body in the area where it is introduced therein and comprises, at least in the area, a light-guiding fiber and a protective layer applied thereto. The protective layer consists either entirely or partially of a layer of material having a maximum elasticity module of 2.5 GPa.

An optical measuring device includes at least one optical sensor, an optical waveguide connected to the optical sensor, and an evaluation unit. The optical measuring device is intended for an electrical machine including at least one conductor that is pressed into a groove of a base body, the groove having two groove lateral walls. The optical sensor and a part of the optical waveguide that is located in a proximity of the sensor are disposed in the area of the groove on a narrow side of the conductor that faces away from both groove lateral walls.
