A fluidics module has first fluidics structures having a first fluid chamber, second fluidics structures having a second fluid chamber, a first connection having a fluidic resistance between the first fluid chamber and the second fluid chamber, third fluidics structures having a third fluid chamber, a second connection having a barrier between the first fluid chamber and the third fluid chamber, a pressure compensation channel between the second fluid chamber and the third fluid chamber, and fourth fluidics structures having a fourth fluid chamber connected to the second fluidics structures via a third connection. Liquid can be transferred centrifugally from the first fluid chamber into the second fluid chamber. Liquid from the second fluid chamber can be transferred under rotation into the fourth fluid chamber via the third connection to generate negative pressure in the third fluid chamber. The barrier can be overcome by liquid from the first fluid chamber due to the negative pressure generated to transfer liquid from the first fluid chamber into the third fluid chamber via the second connection.

Negative pressure switching of liquid

An apparatus for transporting magnetic particles. The apparatus can comprise a substrate that can be configured for rotating around an axis of rotation. Further, fluidic structures can be arranged in the substrate, which can comprise an oblique chamber wall that can be arranged at an angle α with respect to a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation. A magnetic force element can be arranged radially inside the oblique chamber wall with respect to the axis of rotation and can be configured to apply a magnetic force to the magnetic particles disposed in the fluidic structures depending on a positional relationship between the magnetic force element and the fluidic structures, wherein the oblique chamber wall is inclined towards the magnetic force element.

Apparatus and method for transporting magnetic particles

An apparatus for directing a liquid through a porous medium includes a fluidic module rotatable about a center of rotation and including a fluid chamber and an inflow structure. A porous medium is disposed in the fluid chamber to allow centrifugal force-effected flow of the liquid impinging on a radially inner portion of the porous medium, to a radially outer portion of the porous medium. The porous medium is laterally at least partially spaced apart from chamber walls of the fluid chamber with respect to the flow, so that a fluid connection exists between the radially inner portion of the porous medium and the radially outer portion of the porous medium outside the porous medium. The inflow structure is configured to limit a centrifugal force-effected inflow of the liquid to the radially inner portion of the porous medium to a first flow rate, wherein a ratio of the first flow rate to a maximum possible flow rate through the porous medium is not greater than two.

Apparatus and method for directing a liquid through a porous medium

A fluidic module for switching liquid from a liquid retaining area into which liquid can be introduced into downstream fluidic structures includes at least two fluid paths fluidically connecting the liquid retaining area to the downstream fluidic structures. One of the two fluid paths includes a siphon channel. The downstream fluidic structures are not vented or only vented via a vent delay resistor, such that when the liquid is introduced into the liquid retaining area, an enclosed gas volume results in the downstream fluidic structures. By adjusting the ratio of a centrifugal pressure effected by a rotation of the fluidic module and a pneumatic pressure prevailing in the gas volume, the liquid can be retained in the liquid retaining area or can be transferred into the downstream fluidic structures via the siphon channel wherein venting takes place via the other one of the fluid paths.

Centrifugo-pneumatic switching of liquid

A fluid handling device has fluidic structures having inlet and outlet chambers and a connecting duct fluidically connecting the two. In a first state, the inlet chamber is completely or partly filled with at least a liquid and partly filled with a compressible medium, and the outlet chamber is at least partly filled with the compressible medium. One of the inlet chamber and the outlet chamber has such a venting duct that a flow resistance/volume product of venting of the chamber for the compressible medium amounts to at least 6700 N&#xb7;s/m, the other of the inlet chamber and of the outlet chamber being vented. An actuator for actuating the fluidic structures is to cause a pressure difference of at least 30 Pa between the compressible media within the inlet and outlet chambers, so as to thereby switch a valve device implemented into the connecting duct.

Fluid handling method to switch a valve device or to temporarily counteract a flow

A fluidic module includes first and second measuring chambers, first and second fluid inlet channels connected to the first and second measuring chambers, respectively, and first and second fluid outlet channels connected to the first and second measuring chambers, respectively. Upon rotation of the fluidic module about a center of rotation, liquids are centrifugally driven into the first and second measuring chambers via the first and second fluid inlet channels, respectively, so that compressible media previously present within the first and second measuring chambers are compressed by the liquids driven into the first and second measuring chambers, respectively. Upon a reduction of the rotational frequency and upon an expansion, resulting therefrom, of the compressible media, the liquids present within the first and second measuring chambers are driven out of same via the first and second fluid outlet channels, respectively.

Fluidic module, device and method for aliquoting a liquid

A device for stirring at least one liquid includes a fluidics module rotatable about an axis of rotation, a liquid chamber for the liquid within the fluidics module, an introducer for introducing mutually separate phase volumes of a phase different from the liquid, said phase volumes having a different density than the liquid, into the liquid within the liquid chamber, and a driving device for subjecting the fluidics module to such a rotation that the phase volumes are moved radially inward or outward in relation to the axis of rotation through the liquid due to the different density of the phase volumes and of the liquid and due to the centrifugal forces caused by the rotation.

Device and method for stirring at least one liquid

A fluidics module rotatable about a rotational center includes first and second chambers and a compression chamber. First and second fluid channels are provided between the first and second chambers and the compression chamber, respectively. The flow resistance of the second fluid channel is smaller, for a flow of liquid from the compression chamber to the second chamber, than a flow resistance of the first fluid channel for a flow of liquid from the compression chamber to the first chamber. Upon rotation at a high rotational frequency, liquid is initially introduced from the first chamber into the compression chamber via the first fluid channel, so that a compressible medium is compressed within the compression chamber. Subsequently, the rotational frequency is reduced, so that the compressible medium within the compression chamber will expand and so that, thereby, liquid is driven into the second chamber via the second fluid channel.

Fluidics module, device and method for pumping a liquid

A fluidic module rotatable about a center of rotation includes a first compression chamber having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, a second compression chamber having a fluid inlet, a first fluid channel connected to the first chamber via the fluid inlet of the first chamber, and a second fluid channel connecting the fluid outlet of the first chamber to the fluid inlet of the second chamber. Due to rotation of the fluidic module a liquid may be centrifugally driven into the first chamber and the second fluid channel through the first fluid channel, and thereby a compressible medium may be entrapped and compressed within the second chamber. By lowering the rotary frequency and due to the resultant expansion of the compressible medium, liquid may be driven out of the second fluid channel into the first chamber, out of the first chamber into and through an outlet channel.

Fluidic module, device and method for handling liquid

A mixer for insertion into a rotor of a centrifuge has a mixing trough and an obstacle device with at least one obstacle. The at least one obstacle is configured in order to influence the flow of a liquid present in the mixing trough. In response to a rotation of the rotor, with a specified incorporation of the mixer in a holder of the rotor, a spacing between at least one wall section of the mixing trough and the obstacle device is variable such that the liquid present in the mixing trough flows around the obstacle of the obstacle device.

Mixer for insertion into a rotor of a centrifuge

A device for insertion into a rotor of a centrifuge has at least two bodies stacked one above the other in a stacking direction inside a housing insertable into a holder of the rotor of the centrifuge. The two bodies are movably disposed in relation to each other inside the housing in order to fluidically couple, in a first phase, responding to a rotation of the rotor, a first cavity of the first body to a first cavity of the second body and to fluidically couple in a second phase a second cavity of the first body to the first cavity of the second body.
