By means of the invention, an improved device for ventilating crankcase gases is provided, wherein in particular an accurate control of the pressure in the crankcase is provided.

Method and arrangement for engine breaking in motor vehicles having an internal combustion engine with at least one cylinder, at least one exhaust valve at the cylinder and a rocker arm ( ) for activation of the exhaust valve. The rocker arm ( ) is arranged on a hollow rocker arm shaft ( ) and arranged to be effected by ridges ( ) on a camshaft ( ), the device additionally having a control valve ( ) for controlling the oil pressure in the rocker arm shaft ( ), and means ( ) receptive to an increase of the oil pressure in the rocker arm shaft ( ) being integrated in the rocker arm ( ) for absorbing a play between the rocker arm ( ) and the exhaust valve in the case of increase oil pressure. At least one of the ridges ( ) causes opening of the exhaust valve with an engine breaking effect. The control valve ( ) includes an adjustable valve body ( ) and a canal ( ) between the valve body ( ) and the rocker arm shaft ( ) that has a controllable exhaust ( ), the valve body ( ) being arranged to be positioned in a first position with pressure reducing effect and a second position without pressure reducing effect.

Method and arrangement for affecting engine braking

An engine brake application system for an internal combustion engine. The engine has at least one cylinder, at least one exhaust valve associated with the cylinder, and a rocker arm for activating the exhaust valve. The rocker arm is arranged on a hollow rocker shaft having a regulator responsive to an increase in oil pressured in the hollow rocker arm shaft and incorporated into the rocker arm for taking up clearance between the rocker arm ant the exhaust valve. To effect a reduction of engine speed during a gear shift, the system includes an actuator responsive to a signal generated in response to a need to effect a gear shift for rapidly increasing the oil pressure in the hollow rocker arm shaft to thereby effect valve clearance take-up.

Engine brake application system

A pump arrangement is disclosed having a housing, a first pumping chamber within the housing, a drive shaft carried by the housing, and first pumping means arranged for rotation within the first pumping chamber. The first pumping means is driven by the drive shaft. A second pumping chamber accommodating a second pumping means is separated from the first pumping chamber by the housing such that the housing forms common separation wall. To provide a compact arrangement in which the first and second pumping chambers are reliably sealed from each other, the second pumping means is driven by the drive shaft via a magnetic coupling. Thus, the coupling comprises a drive rotor connected to the drive shaft and a driven rotor carried by the housing. The driver rotor and the driven rotor are separated by a separation wall assembly serving as a static seal to hermetically seal the second pumping chamber from the drive shaft.
