A refining element for use in the refining of fibrous materials is disclosed in which the refining surface includes an inner portion and an outer portion defining a transition region between these two portions, a plurality of bars and grooves in the inner portion of the refining surface, and a plurality of bars and intermediate grooves in the outer portion of the refining surface, the bars in the inner surface having a greater width than those in the outer surface, and the transition region having a varying distance from the inner edge of the refining element across the refining surface.

Refining element

Refining elements for use in a refining apparatus for refining lignocellulosic fibrous material between a pair of refining members are disclosed. The refining element is adapted to be mounted on the inwardly facing conical surface of an outer stationary refining member and includes a plurality of bars and intermediate grooves in which the bars extend along the refining gap and include a pair of side walls and an upper surface forming an acute angle with a least one of the pair of side walls.

Refining elements are disclosed for use in the refining of fibrous material in which the refining elements include a pattern of bars and intermediate grooves between the bars. The bars extend in an arc-shaped direction outwardly over the refining element and the upper surface of the bars includes smaller grooves which form angles of from about 10&#xb0; to 90&#xb0; with respect to the longitudinal direction of the bars so that the smaller grooves on the bars extend substantially radially.

A refining surface of a refining member, adapted for use with a refiner for defibrating a lignocellulose-containing material, is provided. Such a refining surface comprises a plurality of first grooves, each first groove being defined between two adjacent first bar portions of the refining surface, and extending between opposing first and second radial edges of the refining surface. The refining surface further comprises a plurality of second grooves, each second groove being defined between two adjacent second bar portions of the refining surface forming each first bar portion, and extending between two adjacent second grooves. The first bar portions are wider than the second bar portions, and each second bar portion are between about 1 mm and about 3 mm wide. A blade segment of a refining member is also provided.

A refiner system is disclosed including a first refiner element and a second refiner element adapted for mounting a refiner for relative rotation with a refining gap between them for processing lignocellulosic material, each of the first and second refiner elements including a refining surface, pins extending upwardly from the refining surfaces whereby the pins on the first refiner surface are disposed in intermediate spaces between the pins on the second refiner surface, each of the first and second refining surfaces further including bars including rounded edges forming a wave-shaped surface thereon.

Refining elements for use with disc refiners for the processing of fibrous materials are disclosed. The refining element include a refining surface having a plurality of bars and intermediate grooves, with the bars having an upper surface and a pair of side surfaces defining longitudinal edges, with the plurality of bars including a plurality of recesses disposed along at least one of the longitudinal edges, the recesses including open portions in both the upper surface and one of the side surfaces thereof.

Apparatus for refining lignocellulosic material is disclosed having a pair of opposed co-operating refining elements intended for a disk refiner for the disintegration of the lignocellulosic material in a refining gap between two opposed counter-rotating refining disks. The refining elements are intended to be placed directly in front of each other on opposed refining disks, and both refining elements are formed with refining surfaces with bars and grooves. In order to prevent generated steam from flowing rearward in the refining gap, a first refining element is formed with a first radially restricted zone with elevated bars and a second radially restricted zone without bars directly outside the first zone. A second opposed refining element is formed with a third radially restricted zone without bars, which third zone is located directly in front of the first and the second zone on the first refining element.

Apparatus for use as a portion of a refining surface of a rotatable refining disk is disclosed. The apparatus includes a refining segment having a periphery and being mountable on a rotatable refining disk in juxtaposition with an opposing refiner disk for treating lignocellulosic material in the gap between the disks, and at least one cleaner protruding from the periphery of the refining segment between that periphery and the refiner housing surrounding the refiner whereby lignocellulosic material is cleared from the outer periphery of the refining disk upon its rotation.

Apparatus for use as at least a portion of the refining surface of a refining disk is disclosed for use in a refiner for lignocellulosic material disposed in a refiner housing, the apparatus including a refiner segment having a periphery and mountable on the refining disk in juxtaposition with an opposing refining disk for treating the lignocellulosic material in the refining gap therebetween and a guide disposed along the entire periphery of the refining segment whereby lignocellulosic material leaving the refining gap is deflected from being thrown directly against the refiner housing.

Apparatus for continuously separating a stream of solid particles and a gas is provided including a housing with a tangential inlet for the stream of solid particles in a gas, a first outlet for the solid particles and a second outlet for the gas, a rotor rotatably mounted within the housing and including a plurality of carriers thereabout, the tangential inlet and the first outlet being disposed on the periphery of the housing spaced from each other in the circumferential direction, and an airtight discharge conduit associated with the first outlet, and second outlet being located centrally in the housing.

Refining elements for use in a disk refiner are provided, in which the refining elements include an outer surface with a plurality of raised bars separated by grooves, the raised bars including an upper surface having a first longitudinal edge and at least one step defining a second longitudinal edge at an intermediate height between the first longitudinal edge and the outer surface of the refining element.

Apparatus is disclosed for refining lignocellulosic material including a pair of refining elements facing each other for relative rotation to refine the lignocellulosic material passing through the refining gap between the refining elements. The refining elements include rows of projecting working pins with substantially circular cross-sections and strips projecting above the refining element surface and extending substantially circumferentially along the refining surfaces. The rows of projecting working pins are disposed at selected radial positions on the two refining surfaces so that they avoid contact with each other during relative rotation of the two refining surfaces.
