An internal combustion engine for a motor vehicle includes an exhaust system through which exhaust gas can flow and in which a first exhaust gas aftertreatment element is disposed. An exhaust gas turbocharger has a turbine and the turbine has a turbine wheel which is disposed upstream of the first exhaust gas aftertreatment element. A bypass line bypasses the turbine wheel and via the bypass line at least part of the exhaust gas can bypass the turbine wheel. The bypass line also bypasses the first exhaust gas aftertreatment element. The bypass line is fluidically connected to the exhaust system at a branch point disposed upstream of the turbine wheel and upstream of the first exhaust gas aftertreatment element. The bypass line is fluidically connected to the exhaust system at a discharge point disposed downstream of the turbine wheel and downstream of the first exhaust gas aftertreatment element.

An internal combustion engine has first and second combustion chambers, first and second exhaust gas line elements, and an exhaust gas turbocharger which has a first flood, a second flood, and a third flood. A bypass device has a bypass line that can be flowed through by exhaust gas from the first and second exhaust gas line elements and via the bypass line a turbine wheel is bypassed by a first part of the exhaust gas from the first and second exhaust gas line elements. A valve device includes a first valve element, via which an amount of the exhaust gas flowing through the bypass line and bypassing the turbine wheel from the first and second exhaust gas line elements is settable. A third exhaust gas line element opens out into the third flood.

In a turbine for an exhaust gas turbocharger having a turbine housing which has a first and a second spiral channel with the second spiral channel extending over a wrap angle range of less than 360 degrees of a turbine wheel of the turbine, and the first spiral channel having a larger wrap angle range than the second spiral channel and the spiral channels being arranged adjacent each other in at least one angular range which includes the wrap angle ranges, the nozzle has an overall nozzle width via which exhaust gas is admitted to the turbine wheel over a respective partial nozzle width of the spiral channels wherein the partial nozzle width of the first spiral channel is greater than the partial nozzle width of the first spiral channel in the first angular range, at least in a further angular range of the wrap angle range which is different from the at least one angular range.

Turbine for an exhaust gas turbocharger

In an internal combustion engine comprising a turbocharger which includes a turbine which is located in an exhaust tract of the internal combustion engine and to which exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine is applied via an exhaust pipe system of the exhaust tract, the turbine comprises volute passages distributed along the circumference of the turbine wheel and the exhaust gas flows are combined and divided upstream of the turbine into at least two exhaust gas part-flows each of which part-flows is fed to one of the volute passages.

In an internal combustion engine for a motor vehicle, having a first cylinder bank and a second cylinder bank and an exhaust tract including a first exhaust manifold and a second exhaust manifold with a first exhaust gas duct and a second exhaust gas duct and a first exhaust gas turbocharger including a first turbine situated in the exhaust tract and a second exhaust gas turbocharger including a second turbine arranged in the exhaust tract, the first turbine and the second turbine are selectively drivable in alternation by at least a portion of the exhaust gas via a valve device that is switchable between at least three positions and is situated upstream from the first turbine and the second turbine so that, in a first position of the valve device, the engine is operated in a pulse supercharging mode; in a second position of the valve device, the engine is operated in a ram charging mode and in a third position of the valve device, the engine is operated in a sequential supercharging mode.
