Disclosed herein are silicone resins comprising structural units of the formula: andat least one structural unit selected from the group consisting of: where 'A' is a spacer group comprising Cto Calkyl groups; 'B' and &#x201c;C&#x201d; are spacer groups comprising Cto Calkyl groups; &#x201c;M&#x201d; comprises a Group III element,; R, R, R, and Rindependently comprise OH, alkyl groups, or alkoxy groups; Rand Rindependently comprise hydrogen, alkali metal, or alkyl groups; and Rcomprises a alkyl group. Methods for preparing these silicone resins are also disclosed. The silicone resins are useful as catalysts for producing bisphenols.

Methods for preparing these silicone resins are also disclosed. The silicone resins are useful as catalysts for producing bisphenols.

Disclosed herein are zeolite compositions comprising structural units of the formulae: wherein 'B' and 'C' are spacer groups comprising Cto Chydrocarbyl groups; and Rand Rindependently of each other comprise alkali metal, hydrogen, or Cto Calkyl groups. The zeolite compositions further comprise structural units derived from a heteropolyacid compound of the formula: (M)(M)(M)O; where Mcomprises hydrogen or an alkali metal; Mcomprises phosphorus or silicon, and Mcomprises tungsten or molybdenum. Methods for preparing these zeolite compositions are also disclosed. The zeolite compositions are useful as catalysts for producing bisphenols.

Functionalized zeolite compositions and methods for their preparation and use

A process for forming a cycloalkylidene bisphenol comprises: reacting a cycloalkanone compound of formula:where [A] is a substituted or an unsubstituted aromatic group, R&#x2013;Rindependently represent a hydrogen or a C&#x2013;Chydrocarbyl group; and 'a' and 'b' are integers independently having values from 0&#x2013;3; with an aromatic hydroxy compound of formula [A]-OH, where [A] is as previously described; at a mole ratio of greater than or equal to about 20, in the presence of a sulfonic acid type ion exchange resin catalyst crosslinked with greater than or equal to about 8 weight percent of divinylbenzene, and a promoter selected from the group consisting of a mercaptan compound and a resorcinol compound; to form a cycloalkylidene bisphenol of formula:where [A], R&#x2013;R, &#x201c;a&#x201d; and &#x201c;b&#x201d; are as previously described. Moreover, any acid catalyst can be used with a resorcinol promoter.
