Apparatus, system, and method for calibrating impedance measurements for closed-loop tuning of wireless devices

The disclosed system may include an antenna and an antenna matching network. The antenna matching network may include an aperture tuner configured to shift a frequency response of the antenna and an impedance tuner configured to dynamically change an amount of radiated power for the antenna. The antenna matching network may be positioned at least a specified minimum distance from the antenna according to various operating characteristics of the antenna. Various other apparatuses, wearable electronic devices, and methods of manufacturing are also disclosed.

The disclosed system may include a frame, a printed circuit board (PCB) mounted to the frame, and at least one antenna electrically connected to the PCB via an antenna feed. The antenna may be shorter than a maximum specified length, and the antenna may be intended to operate within a specified frequency range for which the antenna's length is insufficiently long. Still further, in this system, electrical current flowing to the antenna may be routed to at least a portion of the frame to create a parasitic arm. As such, the parasitic arm may radiate in conjunction with the antenna, providing constructive interference in the specified frequency range. In some embodiments, a phased array antenna includes a carrier; a first plurality of antenna elements carried by the carrier and configured to transmit and/or receive signals at a first value of a parameter, and a second plurality of antenna elements carried by the carrier and configured to transmit and/or receive signals at a second value of the parameter different from the first value of the parameter. The antenna elements of the first plurality of antenna elements and the second plurality of antenna elements are located within a common aperture of the phased array antenna.

Each input of the plurality of inputs electrically couples to a respective input via of the plurality of input vias. Each output of the plurality of outputs electrically couples to a respective output via of the plurality of output vias. The beamformer is included in a first layer, wherein the plurality of input vias are configured to electrically couple to termination trace ends of a plurality of hierarchical networks provided on at least second and third layers, and wherein the plurality of hierarchical networks comprises at least three hierarchical networks.
