The invention relates to an electrode for an electrochemical cell, wherein an electrode is flatly applied onto a surface of a solid oxide electrolyte, and a cathode is flatly applied onto the solid oxide electrolyte surface opposite the electrode. The base material of the electrode is a composite whose catalytically active metal component contains a nickel phase which is made of NiO as part of the electrode starting material by reducing the NiO in a hydrogen-containing atmosphere. The ceramic component is made with a doped cerium oxide and a spinel made of at least one transition metal selected from Ni, Mn, Fe, and Cr.

Paste-like composition and method for producing three-dimensional structures or structural elements on substrate surfaces

The invention relates to an arrangement of electrochemical cells and also to the uses thereof. The electrochemical cells are arranged one above another and are in electrically conducting communication with one another. In this arrangement they form repeating units which in each case are formed of at least one interconnector, in which apertures for gas passage are formed, an electrochemical cell, which is formed of a cathode, an electrolyte and an anode, and contact elements on the anode side and on the cathode side, and are arranged one above another. The area of the individual planar electrochemical cells is in each case smaller than the area of the individual interconnectors, and the electrolytes finish flush in each case with a plane of a surface of the respective interconnector. Mounted on this surface of the interconnector in each case is a single sealing ply of a glass solder with constant thickness, for sealing the gap between electrolyte and interconnector (internal joining) and the gaps between apertures for gas passage of two adjacent interconnectors (external joining).

Arrangement of electrochemical cells and the use of the same

The invention relates to a layer structure which is formed between an interconnect and a cathode of a solid oxide fuel cell and can be used for forming a ceramic layer structure between an interconnect and a cathode. In this respect, the interconnect comprises a metal alloy containing chromium. The object of the present invention is to provide a layer structure between an interconnect and a cathode of a solid oxide fuel cell with which a good protective function (from corrosion and from chromium vaporization), a high electrical conductivity and also a good thermal expansion behavior adapted to the materials of an interconnect and of a cathode can be achieved. The layer structure in the green state is formed by a powdery spinel as well as at least one of the below-named metal oxides CuO, NiO, CoOand MnOas a sintering additive and at least one powdery perovskite. In this respect, chromium is not contained in any of these chemical compounds and the portion of spinel contained with the metal oxides as a sintering additive is reduced starting from the side facing the interconnect up to the side facing the cathode and the portion of perovskite is reduced starting from the side facing the cathode in the direction of the side facing the interconnect.

Layer structure and use thereof to form a ceramic layer structure between an interconnect and a cathode of a high-temperature fuel cell

Described is a functional layer for high-temperature fuel cells and to a method for the production of functional layers. The functional layer is in particular a low-sintering, electrically conductive, ceramic layer which is formed between an interconnector and a cathode of a fuel cell. The functional layer is formed from a material which has at least two phases. A first phase is a perovskite ceramic material containing bismuth-cobalt and a second phase is a bismuth manganite and/or bismuth cobaltite (Bi&#x2014;Mn&#x2014;Co&#x2014;0).

Functional layer for high-temperature fuel cells and method for production

The invention relates to a material for the formation of protective layers resistant to high temperatures on chromium oxide forming substrates, to a manufacturing method and to a use of these materials. It is suitable for a use as a chromium evaporation layer for metallic alloys containing chromium in the high temperature range. It is the object of the invention to provide a material for applications as a protective layer for chromium oxide forming alloys of high temperature resistance which is thermally and mechanically permanently stable and ensures a high electrical conductivity at the operating temperature of the fuel cell. In accordance with the invention, the material is formed from a spinel phase and an oxidic secondary phase which is preferably formed with an oxidic compound containing manganese.

Material for protective coatings on high temperature-resistant chromium oxide-forming substrates, method for the production thereof, and use thereof

A method for producing a solid electrolyte layer, of a fully stabilized zirconium oxide layer on a substrate includes adding a sintering additive to a ZrO2-starting material, a liquid phase is formed during a sintering process and liquid phase sintering is possible at a reduced temperature in comparison with the required sintering temperature without the sintering additive. The reduced sintering temperature substantially prevents the formation of a foreign phase layer between the substrate and the gas-tight layer applied thereon, being of fully stabilized ZrO2. The method is particularly suitable for producing a solid electrolyte layer on a cathode of a high temperature fuel cell and in a sensor.
