An apparatus for accepting and/or dispensing payment and/or for processing value documents having a housing in which there is disposed a control device for controlling at least one part of the apparatus, the housing having a housing body with a housing opening, a housing element movable relative to the housing body, and a housing element holding device that holds the housing element movably on at least one part of the housing body, and a display device controlled by the control device for displaying operating and servicing information which is held on the housing element. The housing element holding device is configured so that the housing element reciprocates between an operating position in which the housing element at least partly closes the housing opening, and a servicing position in which the housing element at least partly releases the housing opening, where the display device in the operating position is oriented with respect to the display device in the servicing position so as to be rotated by an angle that is smaller than 90&#xb0;.

Device for receiving and/or issuing payment means and/or for processing value documents

A method and an apparatus for checking bank notes, in which data from at least two different measurings of the bank notes to be checked are evaluated. Bank notes are checked, whereby data from at least two different measurings of bank notes to be checked are evaluated, a first property of the bank note to be checked being derived from the data of at least one first measuring, at least one second property of the bank note to be checked being derived from the data of at least one second measuring. A correlation between the first and the second property for the same places on the bank note to be checked is determined, and the first property is derived once again. For the places of the bank note to be checked, for which a correlation between first and at least second property has been determined, an altered derivation of the first property from the data of the at least first measuring is performed.

Method and device for checking banknotes

The apparatus has an illuminating device for illuminating sheet material with clocked excitation light. Both during the light phase of clocked excitation light and during the dark phase of clocked excitation light a sensor detects an intensity of the light emitted by the sheet material in each case. In an evaluation device an intensity of fluorescently emitted light and an intensity of phosphorescently emitted light are derived from the intensities detected in the light phase and in the dark phase of clocked excitation light. In order to ensure long preillumination with high intensity, the sensor preferably detects the intensities of emitted light within, and toward the end (in the transport direction) of, the area of the sheet material illuminated by the illuminating device. Additionally the illuminated area of the sheet material is selected to be so great that it is a multiple of the desired resolution.
