An HTTP tunneling service is described for creating a tunneled path between a client and a server (e.g., over a firewall or other data/protocol filtering device). According to one embodiment of the invention the client sends the server an initial request to open a preliminary socket connection which includes a secure client ID previously assigned to the client. The server opens the preliminary socket connection, generates a random client ID and transmits the random client ID to the client. The preliminary socket connection is then closed. The client then sends a second request to open a second socket connection using both the unique ID and the secure client ID for authentication purposes.

Tunneling apparatus and method for client-server communication

A method is described in which the method visualizes a hierarchical representation of one or more related items and sub-items, wherein at least one of the items has a sub-item that is subservient to the item. The method displays the hierarchical representation in a tree structure, wherein at least one of the items and its sub-item are displayed as being subservient to the item by associating a symbol to represent the item as having a sub-item. The logging modules receive and process method calls from network components associated with the categories. The integrated logging and tracing system provides a unique architecture for configuring the logging and tracing modules using minimum/maximum severity settings and inheritance.

A method for dynamically generating a console menu is described that involves displaying a console menu to a user that provides one or more menu options. Each of the one or more menu options is coupled to one or more respective console listeners such that there is at least one listener per menu option amongst the menu options. The method further includes waiting for the user to choose a selection from the menu options. Once a selection of a particular menu option is made, a least one of its associated one or more console listeners is notified. A new console menu is dynamically generated for the user based on the selection chosen by said user. The new console menu provides a new set of one or more options which may be selected by said user.

Apparatus, methods, and systems for provision of filtered unified logging interfaces or services, for example, employed within application servers. In one embodiment of the invention, a filtered unified logging application programming interface (API) provides unified configuration and/or viewing for both tracing and logging. Use of filters provides a finer granularity of log controller or log output, for example, when compared with only utilizing severity. A method of providing filtered unified logging includes receiving a message, the message having a predefined severity; dropping the message if the message severity does not reach a threshold severity; applying one or more filters to the message if the message severity reaches the threshold severity; and sending the message to a destination if the message is not filtered out.
