A rope pulley of an elevator system is a free rotating pulley around which a hoisting rope of the elevator system can be guided. The free pulley is to be mounted to a car sling of an elevator car. The pulley includes an encoder for measuring the rotation movement of the pulley. The movement data are transmitted to a controller that converts the movement data into position data of the car in the hoistway, while further position data are gathered from identification markers that are installed in the hoistway. At least, the movement data of the rope pulley(s) are calibrated based on the position data from the identification markers. Thereby, the position of the car in the hoistway can be determined accurately and costly.

A diverting pulley adapter is provided for converting an existing pulley, the adapter enabling a maintenance of an existing running path for diverting a suspension, like an elevator-rope or an elevator-belt, the adapter having a base with at least one fixing component for anchoring the adapter, at which base a set of pulleys is provided. The adapter includes a first deflection pulley being mounted rotatable on its rotation axis, and at least a further second deflection pulley being mounted rotatable on its rotation axis, wherein the rotation axes of the pulleys are interspaced, respectively. The positions of those pulleys forming the set of pulleys are adjustable in view of their fixation, respectively, and symmetrically in relation to the fixing component.

A counterweight arrangement for an elevator, includes a first vertical guide rail and a second vertical guide rail, the guide rails defining a vertical guide rail plane, a counterweight arranged to travel between the guide rails guided by the guide rails, the counterweight including a frame, which includes a first upright beam and a second upright beam and a cross beam connecting the upper ends of the upright beams, and a diverting pulley mounted between the guide rails on the cross beam of the counterweight frame, the pulley having a vertical plane of rotation, which crosses the guide rail plane. The cross beam is aligned parallel with the plane of rotation of the pulley. An elevator includes the aforementioned counterweight arrangement.

Method for installing the hoisting roping of an elevator, wherein the first elevator unit to be moved is disposed at a suitable point in the elevator hoistway, and the second elevator unit to be moved is disposed at a suitable point in the elevator hoistway, which first elevator unit is an elevator car and which second elevator unit is a counterweight, or vice versa. The first and/or second section of the hoisting roping is connected to its elevator unit via a diverting pulley system such that when the diverting pulley system is still separate from the elevator unit, the section in question of the hoisting roping is arranged to travel under the diverting pulley system of its elevator unit, and the diverting pulley system is lowered, when reeved, downwards into the proximity of its elevator unit, after which the diverting pulley system in question is fixed to its elevator unit.
