A packet data core network node and methods supporting packet data communication are disclosed. In one embodiment, a packet date core network node in a first core network comprises a first communication mechanism for control plane handling and mobility management, a second communication mechanism for user plane management and a mechanism for communication with a dual mode mobile terminal over a first radio network. The packet data core network node comprises or communicates with a mapping function for mapping between first radio bearers used in the first core and radio networks and second radio bearers of a type different from the type of the first radio bearers and used in a second core radio network at handover of a dual mode mobile terminal from the first core network to the second core network or vice versa. Another embodiment is a dual mode mobile terminal including such mapping function.

A packet switched (PS) core network (CN) supporting several quality of services levels, comprising at least a serving node (SGSN), a gateway node (GGSN), a home location register (HLR), a short message service gateway and interworking unit (SMS-GMSC, SMS-IWMSC), charging gateway functionality (CGF), and a public data network (PDN) comprising an application server (AS). A system and method for configuring a Traffic Flow Template, TFT, in real time. The present invention dynamically adapts the TFT to control the routing of downlink data packets from a GGSN to an MS. When the MS sends an uplink data packet on a premium bearer channel, a TFT controller extracts from the uplink data packet, parameters which include at least the destination address of the uplink data packet. A downlink packet filter subset for filtering downlink data packets is then defined as a function of the extracted parameters. For example, the downlink packet filter subset may identify downlink data packets having a source address that matches the destination address of the uplink data packet. The TFT is then modified as a function of the downlink packet filter subset to route the identified downlink packets through the premium bearer channel to the MS, and to route differently, downlink data packets having source addresses that do not match the destination address of the uplink data packet.

Method and system for dynamically configuring a traffic flow template

The present invention relates to an arrangement comprising a functional server node forming part of a conglomerate, or pool, of functional server nodes in common controlling a number of radio network control means, each functional server node being able to control any, or a number of, radio network control means, to which mobile stations are connected. The functional server nodes support transfer/redistribution of mobile stations between each other without interrupting the connection of the mobile stations, a target functional server node, to which it has been decided that a mobile station is to be transferred from a current functional server node, generates an area update or transfer acceptance message comprising an identification of the current functional server node, an identification of the target functional server node and a transfer indications. The invention also relates to a method of redistributing or transferring mobile station contexts.

Arrangement and a method in communication networks

A packet radio data network and methods have been disclosed, the network comprising at least a gateway node (GGSN), at least one serving node (SGSN) connected to the gateway node, a plurality of radio access nodes (RAN) connected to the serving node (SGSN), the packet radio network transporting packet data from an external packet data network, comprising an Internet Service Provider (ISP), to mobile stations (MS) wirelessly attached to radio access nodes (RAN). The gateway node, subsequent to a PDP multipoint context activation procedure, establishes at least a first multicast tunnel (GTPTGTPT, GTPTGTP) between the gateway node and at least one serving node, the multicast tunnel carrying IP streams pertaining to at least two mobile stations belonging to a common multicast group.

The present invention relates to a communication system supporting data communication and comprising at least a first core network with a plurality of circuit switched (CS) core network functional server nodes and a second core network with a number of packet switched (PS) core network functional sever nodes for packet switched communication. The CS core nodes are arranged in a pool and an interface (Gs) between CS core nodes and PS core nodes is used for providing information to CS core nodes from PS core nodes relating to mobility related events provided from an MS to a PS core node. A pool of functional server nodes in a packet data network, and method of transferring a given mobile terminal from a current functional server node to a target functional server node in the pool. An interface enables each functional server node to control any, or a number of, radio network control nodes. When a transfer is desired, the pool selects the target functional server node and initiates a transfer of control responsibility for the given mobile terminal's connections from the current functional server node to the selected target functional server node. The control responsibility is then transferred to the selected target functional server node without interrupting service to the given mobile terminal.

A packet radio data network includes a gateway node (GGSN), at least one serving node (SGSN) coupled to the gateway node, a plurality of radio access nodes (RAN) coupled to the serving node (SGSN), the packet radio network transporting packet data from an external packet data network. A mobile station (MS) issues a membership report message requesting content of a specific multicast group, whereupon the gateway node (GGSN) issues a multicast context activation message to the serving node (SGSN). The serving node (SGSN) informs the radio access network (RAN) that the mobile station is joining the respective multicast group and sends a multicast activation response to the gateway node (GGSN).
