Downhole shock sensor

A downhole tool includes a tool body and an anchoring device integrated with the tool body. The anchoring device includes a contact pad that is at least partially external to the tool body, the contact pad having multiple stages with different thicknesses. The anchoring tool also includes a first linear actuator and a second linear actuator. The first linear actuator is configured to move the contact pad axially with respect to the tool body to align one of the multiple stages with the second linear actuator. The second linear actuator is configured to apply a radial force to the contact pad.

Downhole tool with multi-stage anchoring

A downhole cleanout tool includes a tool housing have a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, and a filter between the inlet and the outlet. The tool includes a pump that is fluidly coupled to at least the fluid inlet to motivate fluid across the filter. The tool also includes a rotatable housing having a nozzle that is fluidly coupled to the pump outlet. The rotatable housing may rotate about a longitudinal axis of the rotatable housing, and the filter and pump may be disposed within the rotatable housing. Each nozzle may include a nozzle outlet oriented at an angle (a) from a radial axis extending from the longitudinal axis of the rotatable housing to a location where the nozzle outlet intersects the periphery of the rotatable housing such that motivation of fluid through the nozzle results in rotation of the rotatable housing.

Downhole radial cleanout tool

A modular, mechanical percussive hammer assembly may be used with drill strings, wireline cable, and coiled tubing. Rotation of a splined driveshaft by downhole electric, hydraulic or mud motor rotates a downwardly-biased hammer and drill body rotatively captured within a upwardly-biased stationary anvil. A bit is carried by the drill body. The hammer contacts and rotates along a cammed control surface of the anvil as the driveshaft is rotated. Interaction between the cammed control surface and the hammer operated to create an axial impact force that is transmitted to the drill body and drill bit.

Downhole mechanical percussive hammer drill assembly

A downhole tool includes a tool body and a first anchoring device integrated with the tool body. The first anchoring device includes at least two linear actuators within and non-perpendicular to the tool body, each of the at least two linear actuators configured to move a corresponding contact pad between a retracted position and an anchor position. The first anchoring device also includes at least one guide component coupled to each contact pad to restrict movement of a corresponding contact pad to a predetermined path.

Downhole tool anchoring device

A cable grab assembly includes a body having a longitudinally extending internal cavity disposed therein. A piston is disposed in the cavity and is axially moveable between a first position and a second position. At least two grab arms are hingedly attached to a bottom end of the body. A linkage assembly operatively couples the piston and the at least two grab arms such that movement of the piston between the first position toward the second position causes the at least two grab arms to pivot inward from an open position toward a closed position. A shear-pin restrains the piston to the first position. At least one spring element is disposed between the piston and an end of the cavity to shift the piston from the first position toward the second position to capture a broken cable when the shear-pin is sheared.

Downhole cable grab assembly and method of use

The disclosure provides a downhole anchoring apparatus for use in a downhole tool. An example downhole anchoring apparatus may include a housing with a hub provided within the housing. The hub may be arranged to rotate in a bidirectional fashion about a longitudinal axis. The downhole anchoring apparatus may also include a deployment linkage. The deployment linkage may be coupled to the hub by a hinge so that when the hub is rotated in a first direction, a distal end of the deployment linkage is extended radially outward from the central axis, and when the hub is rotated in a second direction, the distal end of the deployment linkage is retracted toward the central axis.

Devices and methods for anchoring the tools in a wellbore casing section

In accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure, a low stress rope socket for a downhole tool is disclosed. The rope socket includes a core, a groove cut in a helix shape on the core, and a rope wrapped around the core and inserted in the groove. The slickline attachment affixed to an uphole end of the core to attach the rope to the core. Additionally, the rope socket includes a housing surrounding the rope and the core. The housing secures the rope to the groove. The rope socket further includes a transition affixed to a downhole end of the core. The transition aligns the rope with an axis of symmetry of the socket. A portion of the rope downhole from the rope socket carries no load.

Low stress rope socket for downhole tool

A downhole tool anchor is disclosed. In one implementation, a downhole anchor tool may include a housing, an axial drive in the housing, a rack connected to the axial drive, a pinion in the housing, the pinion having teeth that engage teeth on the rack, a gear tube within the pinion, the gear tube having internal threads, a slip rod having external threads that engage the internal threads within the gear tube, and a radial bearing coupled to the gear tube, the radial bearing having a slip rod alignment member that prevents the slip rod from free spinning in the gear tube.

Constant force downhole anchor tool

A method for jarring allowing the operator to selectively control the jarring force while the tool is downhole and a powered bidirectional mechanical jar therefor, is disclosed. The jar includes a housing, an anvil fixed within the interior the housing, first and second hammers movably disposed within the housing at obverse sides of the anvil, first and second springs disposed to urge the hammers towards the anvil, and a rod with a radial catch that selectively engages and disengages the hammers so as move the hammers to compress the springs and thereafter release the hammers to be accelerated against the anvil. A actuator operates the catch. By controlling the movement of the rod, the spring compression and resultant jarring intensity can be controlled. A stroker tool may be provided to move the rod.

Jarring using controllable powered bidirectional mechanical jar

A multi-perforating assembly can include a housing containing a rotor. The rotor can be axially stroked by a multi-stroker tool. Upon axial movement, the rotor can cooperate with the housing to incrementally rotate. Axial movement of the rotor can cause a multi-perforating cartridge to radially pierce. Rotation of the rotor combined with piercing of the multi-perforating cartridge can enable multiple piercings to be easily and quickly performed in a single run. A multi-perforating cartridge can include a blade pivotally attached to a slider. The blade can be pulled past ports in a cartridge housing whereupon biasing springs can push the blade into the ports and a support pin can push the blade into piercing positions before pushing the blade into transitional positions, after which the blade can be biased into the subsequent port.
