A user interface application, such as a sidebar application or web page, receives content from a set of plug-in modules. The user interface handles the display of the content and manages any user interaction with the content, thus abstracting these features from the plug-in modules. The plug-in modules may thus be device-independent and possibly used to display the same or corresponding content in other interfaces and/or other devices. One or more of the plug-in modules may also be designed to obtain and populate their content automatically based on user activity, including web browsing or interactions with documents on the local system.

A method for providing search results includes identifying a plurality of websites relevant to a search query, generating an ordered set of search results, and sending the search results to a client device. Each respective search result includes a link to a respective website, the link including a reference to a recording function that is distinct from a function of the link to send a request to the respective website, and position information identifying a position of the respective search result in the ordered set of search results. In some implementations, the search results also include the recording function. The recording function, when executed at the client device, sends data, including the position information and website location information associated with the link in a respective search result of the ordered set of search results, to a server that is distinct from the website.

A user interface and a method are disclosed for viewing digital videos. Responsive to resizing a window, a video region and associated controls are resized so that they remain visible. The video image within the video region is correspondingly resized to maintain the aspect ratio. Systems and methods for constructing a query result set are described. In one described method, a display processor or query system refreshes a first result set comprising a first plurality of article identifiers. The display processor or query system receives or creates a second result set comprising a second plurality of article identifiers. The display processor then creates a third result set based at least in part on the first result set and the second result set. The display processor may create the third result set by modifying the first result set based at least in part on the second plurality of article identifiers or by modifying the second result set based at least in part on the first plurality of article identifiers.
