Techniques for optimizing network-transferred multi-card content items are provided. In one technique, a first content item selection event is initiated that involves a set of content delivery campaigns that includes a content delivery campaign that includes a content item that comprises multiple cards. The content delivery campaign is selected and the content item is transmitted to a first computing device, where the multiple cards have a first card configuration. One or more events that are associated with the first computing device displaying at least one card of the plurality of cards is identified. Based on the events, a second card configuration is determined. Another content item selection event that involves the content delivery campaign is initiated and the content delivery campaign is selected. The content item is transmitted to a second computing device, where the multiple cards have the second card configuration.

Optimization of network-transferred multi-card content items

A content item generation system which implements techniques for selecting and identifying content items to return in response to a request is described. For example, the content item generation system may separate requirements included with a request into first and second sets of requirements. The first set of requirements may be used to identify which content items or content item campaigns may be suitable to respond to the request. The second set of requirements may be used to determine whether items associated with the selected content items or content item campaigns correspond to technical requirements specified in the request.

Multi-step validation of content items based on dynamic publisher requirements

A system may include a database configured with individual partitions, one of the partitions corresponding to a sponsored content campaign of a social network. The system may further include multiple servers each communicatively coupled to the database, and each configured to implement a campaign having a campaign termination criterion. Each of the servers may include a processor configured to track sponsored content event data received from a user device based on the campaign and transmit the event data to the database and terminate the campaign based on a comparison of the event data as received from a partition of the database corresponding to the campaign and an estimation of event data not received from the database. The database may be configured to store the event data as received from the servers in the partition corresponding to the campaign upon receipt of the event data.

Independent targeted sponsored content management system and method

Apparatus and methods are provided for indexing electronic content to be served to users' mobile and/or stationary communications and computing devices. An index is composed of multiple slices, with each slice storing multiple entries and each entry representing one content item or one campaign or collection of content items. An entry is populated with tokens representing attribute/value pairs of a target audience of the content item and/or property/value pairs of the item or the item's campaign. A query or request to identify content items for serving to a particular user is similarly formatted with tokens representing attribute/value pairs of the user and/or item/campaign. Queries can then be executed rapidly across any or all index entries in any or all slices. Within a slice, entries may be sorted by value or score, and integer components within an individual entry may be sorted to facilitate rapid comparison with a query.

Optimizing a content index for target audience queries

A system and method are provided for automatically selecting one of multiple formats in which to serve a content item. The system collects data regarding content items served and user activity and/or revenue regarding those served items. These data are used to calculate performance values or scores of each format for specified factors such as destination (e.g., a web domain, a URL, a content channel), visibility (e.g., above the fold), a period of time, a vertical or type of content, and so on. When a new content request is received, the format selected for serving in response to the request is chosen based on the competing formats' calculated performances, and a suitable content item is selected. The selected format may be the format likely to generate the most revenue, may be selected by statistical sampling, or may be selected by using the performance values/scores in some other way.
