A method for reducing idle mode power consumption is disclosed. An idle mode is entered. A neighboring base station is selected. If the selected neighboring base station is assigned a high-frequency monitoring mode, a signal strength of the neighboring base station is measured. A low-frequency monitoring mode is assigned to the selected neighboring base station if the signal strength of the selected neighboring base station has been below a power threshold for longer than a time threshold. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

Reducing idle mode power consumption for monitoring neighboring base stations

A method for receiving cell broadcast messages is described. The method includes communicating with a first cell. The method also includes switching to communicating with a second cell. A cell broadcast channel is read after switching cells. The method further includes switching from a dedicated mode to a packet idle mode. The cell broadcast channel is reread once after switching from a dedicated mode to a packet idle mode. Other aspects, embodiments and features are also claimed and described.

Receiving cell broadcast (CB) messages

Apparatus and methods are disclosed to provide for a multi-SIM wireless user equipment configured for block-level, or slot-level tune-away operations enabling simultaneous communication with a plurality of channels. The first and second channels may correspond to different RANs, each of which the user equipment may subscribe to as corresponding to information in a plurality of SIMs at the user equipment. In other examples, the first and second channels may correspond to different cells within a single RAN. In either case, the tune-away operations disclosed provide for reduced data loss at the first channel and in some examples improved communication performance at the second channel. Apparatus and method for employing a tune-away operation to communicate simultaneously with a plurality of channels

An electronic percussion apparatus for use with an acoustic drum. The apparatus has a base layer of material having a first side for contacting a drum head of an acoustic drum, and an opposite, second side. The apparatus has a top layer of material joined to the base layer of material. A percussion detector is between the top and base layers. The percussion detector generates electrical signals in response to percussion impacts on the top layer. The top and bottom layers each have a thickness that acoustically isolates the drum head from percussion impacts on the top layer, wherein when the electronic percussion apparatus is placed on a drumhead of an acoustic drum and percussion impacts occur on the top layer, the drumhead is acoustically isolated from the percussion impacts and the percussion detector generates electrical signals in response to the percussion impacts on the top layer.

A data transmitter () divides incoming data for transmission into data blocks and passes them in frame transmission order to a radio link stage () via a serial frame buffer (). The buffer () holds the data frames until the radio link stage () is able to transmit them. The incoming data has associated with it various parameters. The radio link stage () has allocated to it radio link resources. The parameters and resources, which change independently of each other from time to time, are supplied to a controller () which calculates high and low buffer levels therefrom. The controller () controls the passing of the data frames through the frame buffer () to maintain the number of frames in the buffer at any instant of time at a level between the calculated high and low levels.

Method of and apparatus for adaptive control of data buffering in a data transmitter

A data transfer procedure enables data of a data sequence to be transferred between a transmitting entity () and a receiving entity (). The entities each comprise a higher data handling layer () and a lower data handling layer (). The procedure comprises transferring down from the higher data handling layer () of the transmitting entity () to the lower data handling layer () of the transmitting entity a data unit of the data sequence, which data unit comprises one or more segments. The or each segment is transmitted from the lower data handling level () of the transmitting entity () to the lower data handling level () of the receiving entity () via a transmission link between the transmitting entity () and the receiving entity (). An acknowledgement of receipt of the or each segment is sent from the lower data handling level () of the receiving entity to the lower data handling level () of the transmitting entity. The or each segment is transferred from the lower data handling layer () of the receiving entity to the higher data handling layer () of the receiving entity in data sequence order. The higher data handling layer of the transmitting entity () is arranged to retain a copy of the data unit until such time as an at least implied acknowledgement of receipt of earlier segments in the sequence is sent back from the receiving entity () to the lower data handling level of the transmitting entity.
