An audit system automatically ensures compliance with relevant policy by identifying an entity offering a non-audit service that also provides audit services to the enterprise, and ensuring the service is permissible and proper approval has been obtained. If the non-audit service is prohibited or proper approval from an audit committee has not been obtained, execution of the service is prevented. When a permissible non-audit service is executed, this service can be monitored and execution suspended when circumstances change such that the service is no longer permissible or approval for the service expires. The audit system can forward a message to the audit committee or other authority about any suspended business process. If the audit committee subsequently approves the suspended permissible non-audit service, execution of the instance of the business process resumes. The audit system determines whether the vendor entity was paid demands a refund where necessary.

Tools for configuring enterprise applications. In an aspect, an enterprise application can be configured to account for relationships between multiple business units within an enterprise, including without limitation relationships between the business functions provided by various business units. In another aspect, the disclosed tools provide a framework for identifying and/or defining relationships between business units. The tools might also provide a user interface for a user to identify one or more business units and/or business functions and defines a relationship between them. Based on this definition, an enterprise application can be configured to account for this relationship.

An embodiment provides a timeline upon which a playhead indicator is moved or positioned. Changes to a displayed graph that are within a predetermined interval of the playhead indicator's time position are shown graphically on or near the graph. Actor icons are positioned on or near the displayed graph. Action beams are displayed to show changes to the graph. As playback of the change events occurs, beams emanate from actor icons to items in the graph that are changed or otherwise operated upon. Tools for configuring an enterprise applications. In one aspect, the tools provide a user interface to allow an implementer describe, based on an interview with executives of the organization, an enterprise structure of an organization, and a data structure generator to configure the enterprise application to reflect this enterprise structure. In one aspect, these tools can allow a general case to guide the default assignment of intersections of legal and managerial reporting structures to a business unit, allowing the minimum number of business units to fulfill both the external and managerial responsibilities. The tools may implement a pivot table approach to provide an interface for the user to provide such input.

Enterprise structure configurator

Systems and methods used in human resource management systems. The method optimizes the assignment of permissions (e.g., ability to write to a database, ability to create a new account, etc.) to jobs. The method discovers relationships between jobs, duties and privileges by accessing an organization chart that relates a plurality of jobs, a plurality of specific duties to be performed within the purview of a given job, and a plurality of permissions for the respective duties of the job. The method then flattens the organization chart to enumerate the permissions inherited by the jobs. The method proceeds to mine the inherited permissions across the jobs to optimize the sets of permissions. The sets can be optimized (e.g., minimize number of sets, maximize coverage, etc.) and named so as to be conveniently assigned (e.g., by an HR person) to a job (e.g., in the case of a new employee).

Role discovery using privilege cluster analysis

One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that logs the use of privileges in a distributed computing environment. The distributed computing environment includes a database system, one or more client applications, and a unified security management layer between the database system and the one or more client applications. During operation, the system receives a request from a client application to execute a business function in the distributed computing environment. The system determines a privilege associated with the requested business function, and logs that the request is associated with the privilege. The system then checks, in the unified security management layer, whether a user associated with the request is associated with a role that has the privilege. If the user is associated with a role that has the privilege, the system performs the requested business function. By checking and logging privilege access in the unified security management layer, the system facilitates tracking privilege use for the database system and the client applications in a single entity, thereby enabling security managers to more easily audit privileged operations in the distributed computing environment.

In example embodiments, space filling elements displayed on a computer screen represent items in one or more levels of a hierarchical menu structure. The area of a space filling element indicates the number of accesses to an application associated with the space filling element. A search system receives business intelligence dimensions and at least one text search term. The system generates and displays key performance indicators based on the business intelligence dimensions, and generates and displays search results based on the text search term. The search results are restricted by facets, and the facets are derived from the business intelligence dimensions.

This disclosure describes tools for navigating within applications, and in particular business applications. For example, a menu system may incorporate a notification system, such that notifications of events received at a business application are displayed within the context of the menu system. A system and accompanying method adapted to facilitate folder structure and authorization mirroring between a Document management System (DMS) and an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). An example method includes providing a first user option to view a representation of a database structure of a database application of an ERP system; displaying a second user option to select a portion of the representation of the database structure; and offering a third user option to create a folder structure for a Document Management System (DMS) based on the selected portion of the representation of the database structure. In a more specific embodiment, the method further includes providing a fourth user option to adjust permissions for users to access one or more folders of the folder structure based on permissions associated with a database object of the database structure. The fourth user option includes an option to synchronize one or more permissions and/or grants associated with the selected portion of the representation of the database structure with one or more ACLs associated with one or more folders of the folder structure.

An audit planning system enables users to plan effective audits by identifying audit units having potentially large impacts and risks on an enterprise and enabling users to select audit units to include in audits based on a variety of different criteria. The audit planning system displays the audit units of the enterprise and a visual indicator of the impact and risk associated with each audit unit. The audit planning system enables users to select the displayed audit units to plan an audit. The audit planning system may display audit units in an impacted financial statement, a tree map, a graph, and/or a table. The audit planning system may sort and/or display audit units with visual indicators specifying associated risks, impacts, materiality values, exposures, coverages, and/or audit costs. The audit planning system can further display visual indications of the changes in audit units' associated attributes over time.

Systems and methods provide for licensed feature enablement management for deploying software to be used in conformance with a software license agreement. The system includes a software application provider server that deploys a software application and a role hierarchy enumerating a list of roles and features of the software application that each role in the list of roles is licensed to use in accordance with a license agreement. The software application provider server further comprises a role examiner server that determines whether the deployed software application is being used in compliance with the software license. The system also includes a customer enterprise application server that receives the deployed application and role hierarchy and enables use of the application to customer employees based on their assigned roles. The customer enterprise application server comprises a role directory server that responds to queries from the role examiner to maintain conformance with the software license.

Licensed feature enablement manager

Techniques implementable in an enterprise application or application suite for managing the organizational structure of an enterprise. In one set of embodiments, a single, unified hierarchy can be defined for the organizational structure of an enterprise. The unified hierarchy can include high-level nodes that correspond to entities common to different manifestations of the organizational structure (e.g., reporting structure, cost structure, etc.). The unified hierarchy can also include lower-level nodes that are unique to a particular manifestation. By defining a single, unified hierarchy in this manner, organizational changes in the enterprise can be modeled in the application/application suite by simply updating the unified hierarchy (rather than updating multiple hierarchies). In addition, the unified hierarchy can be used to facilitate security provisioning and reporting.
