The invention relates to a mouthpiece for performing a treatment of teeth such as teeth whitening. Accordingly, the mouthpiece may be arranged for cosmetic treatment. The treatment is based on illumination of the teeth of light with a suitable wavelength. The mouthpiece is designed so that light from light sources, e.g. LED's, is sufficiently homogenized so that the light irradiance at the teeth is sufficiently uniform to achieve good treatment results. Furthermore, the mouthpiece is designed so that the irradiance at the teeth is sufficiently high to achieve efficient treatment and so that heating of the teeth is minimized to an acceptable heating.

Mouthpiece for dental treatment

A smart lighting system for applying light to teeth in the context of tooth whitening and teeth that have been provided with a light-curable whitening varnish. The system includes a light-generating unit, a light-patterning unit, a mouth imaging unit, a mouth image sensing unit, and an image processing and control unit, and is adapted so as to allow the image processing and control unit to adjust the light-patterning unit on the basis of information obtained from the mouth image sensing unit. By doing so, prior to allowing the light-generating unit to emit light, it can be ensured that light emitted to assist tooth whitening, does not affect soft tissue.

Tooth whitening system and method

A system for providing an oral care agent includes a first layer containing the oral care agent and a second layer. The first layer can be applied directly to teeth. The second layer can subsequently be applied onto the first layer to inhibit leakage of the oral care agent outwards into the mouth.

System and method for applying oral care agents

The invention relates to a mouthpiece () for illumination of teeth, e.g. for teeth whitening. The mouthpiece comprises a slab shaped light guide (), at least one light source arranged for injecting light into the light guide and an optically transparent element () arranged to contact the light guide. The optically transparent element has a lower refractive index than the light guide to enable total internal refection of the injected light. Light is coupled out of the light guide by an out-coupling structure () and through a part of the optically transparent part located between the light guide and the buccal side of the teeth to illuminated the teeth with uniform light.

Teeth illumination device with a light core

A delivery device () includes a source () of pressurized fluid and a nozzle () which defines an outlet (). A fluid pathway () fluidly connects the source of pressurized fluid with the nozzle outlet () for delivery of a spray of fluid from the nozzle outlet. A delivery mechanism () releases a dose () of particles () into the fluid pathway from an associated cartridge (), such that the dose of the particles is carried by the pressurized fluid through the nozzle outlet in the spray. The particles include a dental care agent.

Device for delivery of a tooth whitening agent

The appliance includes a brushhead having conductive fiber bristles by which a potential is applied to electrochemically activate a teeth whitening substance, such as peroxide, in the vicinity of the teeth. An impedance appliance system () or an optical appliance system () provides information concerning whether the conductive fiber bristles are adjacent a tooth surface or gum region. The impedance system uses an electrical signal through the fiber to determine the impedance of a circuit which includes the tooth or gum surface, the impedance being different, depending on whether a tooth or gum surface is in the circuit. The optical system generates a light beam which is directed to the mouth surface through a conductive fiber, the color of the returning light indicating whether the surface is a tooth or gum region. If a tooth is determined, the teeth whitening substance is activated at that bristle, while if gum tissue is determined, the teeth whitening substance is not activated at that bristle.

System for protection of soft tissues against a teeth whitening substance

The monitoring of UV radiation has received increased attention recently due to the hazards of accelerated skin ageing and even cancer following excessive exposure. Personalized monitoring gives a more accurate reading than crude weather forecasts of the 'UV index'. This invention answers both these needs in a personal UV monitor that is incorporated into an existing display. Minimal processing changes are made to an existing display in order to achieve this added functionality, which is therefore achieved at little additional cost.

Portable UV monitoring device

A photodiode (), for instance a PN or a PIN photodiode, is disclosed. The photodiode receives incident radiation having first and second spectral distributions, where the first spectral distribution is spectrally shifted from the second spectral distribution. The photodiode has a first semiconductor layer () capable of absorbing incident radiation () having a first spectral distribution without generating a photocurrent, while simultaneously transmitting incident radiation having a second spectral distribution to the intrinsic layer () for generating a photocurrent (). The photodiode may be used in connection with detecting the presence of target molecules that has been labeled with labeling agents, such as fluorophores or quantum dots. The labeling agents are characterized by the Stokes shift and, therefore, they emit fluorescent radiation having the second spectral distribution that is spectrally shifted from the illumination radiation having the first spectral distribution.

Photodiode for detection within molecular diagnostics

An active matrix display device comprises an array of display pixels, with each pixel comprising an EL display element, a light-dependent device for detecting the brightness of the display element and a drive transistor circuit for driving a current through the display element. The drive transistor is controlled in response to the light-dependent device output so that ageing compensation can be implemented. The light-dependent device is located laterally of the area of light emitting material of the EL display element. In this way, the light-dependent device does not cause step coverage problems and can be integrated into the pixel layout without affecting the pixel aperture. Furthermore, the light dependent device can extend alongside the full length of the area of light emitting material so that it receives light input from a large part of the display element area.

Electroluminescent display devices

A display device comprises an illumination source (), a display modulator () for modulating the light provided by the illumination source and an integrated light sensor arrangement () to detect a light level. Light sensor signals from a plurality of light sensors are processed such that localized shielding of the ambient light at the location of one or more of the light sensors is identified. An accurate estimate of the ambient light level can then be obtained.

Display devices with ambient light sensing

A display panel includes pixels with a light emissive layer and an electrode layer deposited on the light emissive layer. A first pixel is determined by a first barrier structure and a second pixel, adjacent to the first pixel, is determined by a second barrier structure. The first and second barrier structures are separated by an electrically conductive structure in electrical contact with the electrode layer. Accordingly, space is available between the barrier structures for electrical shunting of the electrode layer.

Display panel and method for manufacturing the same

The pixels of an active matrix display device have a current-driven light emitting display element, a drive transistor for driving a current through the display element, a storage capacitor for storing a pixel drive voltage to be used for addressing the drive transistor, a light-dependent device for detecting the brightness of the display element, and driver circuitry for providing data signals to the pixel external to the pixel array. This provides a pixel with optical feedback to compensate for display element ageing. The driver circuitry has a processing means for processing the feedback brightness signals and derives from them a threshold voltage for the drive transistor of the pixel as well as information relating to the performance of the display element, for ageing compensation.

An EL device comprising a substrate (), a light emissive structure comprising three series connected LEDs on the substrate (LED). Considering the diode LED, it comprises organic light emissive material disposed (-) between an underlying ITO anode (-) and an overlying cathode (-) that is electrically connected in series to the underlying anode (-) of the diode LEDthrough the thickness of the organic light emissive material (-). The connection can be made by using a wetting agent to prevent the organic light emissive material disposed (-) covering contact region (-) on the anode (-) so that the overlying cathode (-) can make a series connection with the underlying anode (-).

Electroluminescent devices and their manufacture

An active matrix display device has pixels each with a light-sensitive device () for optical feedback functions. Each pixel has a light blocking structure () formed from the thin film layers of the display substrate in the proximity of the light-sensitive device () and substantially at the level of an input surface of the light sensitive device. This structure prevents the passage of light (g) to the light sensitive device from a substantially lateral direction.
