The present invention relates to supporting an interventional procedure involving a device, such as a cardiovascular procedure. First and second image data acquired using different imaging apparatus, for example X-ray and ultrasound image data, are co-registered. A device is firstly identified in 2D X-ray images; corresponding identification information is then used to generate a view from 3D ultrasound image data that includes a cross-section of the device to be identified subsequently. Following the identification, a 3D position and orientation of the device are available. Such information may advantageously be used in setting up optimal ultrasound views for image-based guidance of the ongoing procedure.

Image-based device tracking

An image registration systemfor registering a live stream of ultrasound imagesof a beamforming ultrasound probewith an X-ray imageis described. The image registrationsystem identifies, from the X-ray image, the position of a medical devicerepresented in the X-ray image; and determines, based on ultrasound signals transmitted between the beamforming ultrasound probeand an ultrasound transducerdisposed on the medical device, a location of the ultrasound transducerrespective the beamforming ultrasound probe. Registration of X-ray and ultrasound images

A controller for maintaining alignment of X-Ray imagery and ultrasound imagery includes a memory that stores instructions, and a processor that executes the instructions. When executed by the processor, the instructions cause the controller to execute a process that includes receiving data from an X-Ray system used to perform X-Ray imaging, and receiving data from an ultrasound imaging probe used to perform ultrasound imaging. The process executed by the controller also includes registering imagery based on X-Rays to imagery from the ultrasound imaging probe based on an X-Ray image of the ultrasound imaging probe among the imagery based on X-Rays, and detecting, from the data from the ultrasound imaging probe, movement of the ultrasound imaging probe.

Multi-modal imaging alignment

An image registration system () for registering a live stream of ultrasound images () of a beamforming ultrasound probe () with an X-ray image () is described. The image registration () system identifies, from the X-ray image (), the position of a medical device () represented in the X-ray image (); and determines, based on ultrasound signals transmitted between the beamforming ultrasound probe () and an ultrasound transducer () disposed on the medical device (), a location of the ultrasound transducer () respective the beamforming ultrasound probe (). Each ultrasound image from the live stream () is registered with the X-ray () image based on the identified position of the medical device (). The present invention relates to a device () for modifying an imaging of a TEE probe in X-ray data, a medical imaging system () for modifying an imaging of a TEE probe in X-ray data, a method for modifying an imaging of a TEE probe in X-ray data, a computer program element for controlling such device () and a computer readable medium having stored such computer program element. The device () comprises an X-ray data provision unit (), a model provision unit (), a position locating unit (), and a processing unit (). Device for modifying an imaging of a tee probe in X-ray data

A controller for displaying a puncture site of an intra-atrial septum for heart repairs includes a memory and a processor (). The processor () executes instructions () to perform a process based on image data of a heart that includes a mitral valve and an intra-atrial septum. The process includes defining a mitral valve annulus plane along a mitral valve annulus of the mitral valve and a normal vector perpendicular to the mitral valve annulus plane. The process also includes defining an offset plane that intersects with the intra-atrial septum and that is parallel to the mitral valve annulus plane. A safe zone for the puncture site is identified and displayed on the intra-atrial septum. The safe zone is between a lower boundary plane () and an upper boundary plane () that are each parallel to the offset plane by specified distances.

The invention relates to an apparatus and a system for visualizing an image object relating to an instrument (), particularly a medical instrument, in an extracorporeal image. The image object may comprise a representation of the instrument () or an intracorporeal image () acquired using the instrument (). The guidance device () for a TEE probe () comprises an image data provision unit (), and a processing unit (). The image data provision unit () is configured to provide first image data showing an interventional device () and a TEE probe () in an initial position and orientation. The processing unit () is configured to determine a centerline of the interventional device () in the first image data. The processing unit () is configured to determine a plane () orthogonal to a tangent of the centerline as viewing plane. The processing unit () is configured to calculate an imaging plane and an imaging orientation of the TEE probe () to lie approximately in the viewing plane. The processing unit () is configured to provide the calculated data as guidance data.

Guidance device for a tee probe

The invention provides a 'model-based' imaging system in which surface values to be applied to a segmented surface of an imaged body are determined on the basis of projections cast into the volume of the imaged body, the projections made at angles and depths determined on the basis of information encoded within an anatomical model. In examples, the angles and depths are determined on the basis of a comprehensive segmentation of the imaged body, itself performed on the basis of the anatomical model. By locally varying projection angles and depths around the body, in dependence upon local anatomical context, improved imaging of the internal structure of the imaged body may be achieved. In particular, images may be generated providing representations of the internal structure which are of greater clinical utility or relevance. 4D data sets may also be better handled, through use of anatomical context to maintain consistency in representations across multiple frames.

Imaging system and method

This enables a precise alignment of the X-ray imaging device, especially for TAVR procedures.

Medical viewing system with a viewing angle optimization function

The invention relates to a system for providing an electrical cardiac activity map by means of electrical signals acquired by a plurality of surface electrodes on an outer surface of a living being (). A cardiac structure position determination unit () determines a position of a cardiac structure, in particular, of the epicardial surface, based on provided projection images, wherein an anatomical cardiac model is adapted to the projection images. The projection images may be provided by an x-ray C-arm system (). An electrical activity map determination unit () determines the electrical activity map at the cardiac structure based on the electrical signals, the positions of the plurality of surface electrodes also determined from the projection images, and the determined position of the cardiac structure. This allows determining the electrical activity map at the cardiac structure with high accuracy, without necessarily needing, for instance, an x-ray computed tomography system that would apply a relatively high x-ray radiation dose to the living being. The electrodes may be comprised in a vest ().

System for providing an electrical activity map

The present invention relates to a system for tracking the position of an ultrasonic probe in a body part. It is described to acquire () an X-ray image of a portion of a body part within which an ultrasonic probe () is positioned. First geometrical positional information of the ultrasonic probe in the portion of the body part is determined (), utilizing the X-ray image. At least one ultrasonic image comprising a part of a body feature with the ultrasonic probe is acquired (), the acquiring () comprising acquiring () an ultrasonic image of the at least one ultrasonic image at a later time than a time of acquisition of the X-ray image. Second geometrical positional information of the ultrasonic probe in the body part at the later time is determined (), comprising utilizing the first geometrical positional information and the at least one ultrasonic image comprising the part of the body feature.

System for tracking an ultrasonic probe in a body part

A system and method is provided for performing a model-based segmentation of a medical image which only partially shows an anatomical structure. In accordance therewith, a model is applied to the image data of the medical image, the model-based segmentation providing an adapted model having a first model part having been adapted to the first part of the anatomical structure in the medical image of the patient, and a second model part representing the second part of the anatomical structure not having been adapted to a corresponding part of the medical image. Metadata is generated which identifies the first model part to enable the first model part to be distinguished from the second model part in a further processing of the adapted model. Advantageously, the metadata can be used to generate an output image which visually indicates to the user which part of the model has been personalized and which part of the model has not been personalized. Other advantageous uses of the metadata in the further processing of the adapted model have also been conceived.
