The invention relates generally to the field of insulating electrical conductors against partial discharge in the medium- and high-voltage ranges. In particular, the invention relates to an insulating system for an electric machine, in particular a rotating electric machine such as an electric motor and/or a generator. The invention provides for the first time a substitute for the conventionally used mica as a barrier material in an insulating system, such as the main insulation of rotating electric machines such as motors and/or generators. The substitute is based on a polyether-imide/siloxane copolymer, which can be processed two-dimensionally, for example by surface extrusion. In this way, sheets are produced and, after being processed in sheet form or as a laminate, can be used as planar insulating materials, or cut as strips, in insulating systems.

Various embodiments of the teachings herein include an insulation system. The system may include a solid insulation material including a two-dimensional insulant and a synthetic resin. The two-dimensional insulant includes a blend of a copolymer with a high-temperature thermoplastic. The synthetic resin includes a thermoset to impregnate the two-dimensional insulant and then cure the two-dimensional insulant.

The present disclosure describes slot insulation systems for electrical rotating machines. For example, a system may include: a main insulation for a coil of the rotating machine or for an individual bar for the coil; a resin formulation serving as a slot adhesive forming a solid film. At room temperature and under standard conditions, the solid film is in an A-state. Heating the electrical rotating machine to a curing temperature for the resin formulation, the solid film firstly melts and flows within an occupied slot, then cures and solidifies to form a thermoset material.

Various embodiments include a sprayable formulation for an insulation system of an electrical machine, the formulation comprising a sprayable resin mixture including: a monomeric and/or oligomeric, at least diepoxidic carbon-based first resin component; and a monomeric and/or oligomeric second resin component based on alkyl-/arylpolysiloxane with at least one glycidyl ester and/or glycidyl ether functionalities; and a curing agent and based on at least one of: anhydride, (poly)amine, and amino- and/or alkoxy-functional alkyl-/arylpolysiloxane.

Various embodiments include an insulation material for an electrical rotating machine comprising: a curable matrix material; a curing agent; and a filler embedded in the matrix material. The filler comprises electrically conductive doped metal oxide particles.

Various embodiments include a sprayable formulation for production of a multilayer insulation for an electrical machine, especially a rotating electrical machine in the high-voltage or mid-voltage sector, for example a generator, transformer, which is subjected to higher rated voltages at operating voltages, i.e., for example, over and above 1 kV or more. The invention also relates to an electrical machine comprising such an insulation; the invention finally relates to a method of producing the multilayer insulation. This comprises spraying of various formulations with or without intermediate, especially metallic, interfaces and is automatable.
