Polymers are provided, in which a pendant photoinitiator moiety is linked to the polymer structure via an amide or a succinimide.

Amide and imide photoinitiators

A polyalkylether photoinitiator of the general formula I, R(A)-(R(A)-O)&#x2014;(R(A)-O)&#x2014;R(A)I, wherein R, R, R, Rand m, n, o, p, r and s are as defined herein and A, A, Aand Aare identical or different photoinitiator moieties.

Polymeric photoinitiators

The present invention provides polymeric quaternary ammonium photoinitiators being co-polymers of photoinitiator monomers, as well as quaternary ammonium photoinitiator monomer being valuable intermediates in the preparation of such polymeric photoinitiators. Additionally, there is provided a polyacrylate obtained by radical polymerization of at least one acrylate monomer (Ac) in the presence of such polymeric photoinitiators. In the photoinitiator monomers and polymeric photoinitiators, a photoinitiator moiety and a quaternary ammonium are incorporated into the photoinitiator structure.

Polymeric photoinitiators and photoinitiator monomers

The invention provides a method for the manufacture of a gel, said method comprising the steps of: providing a matrix composition comprising a polymeric photoinitiator of the general formula (I): Polymer-[CR&#x2014;CHR-Spacer(PI)](I) curing the matrix composition by exposing it to UV radiation and exposing the matrix composition to a swelling medium. The invention also relates to gels obtainable via the above method. The invention provides a hydrophilic gel precursor manufactured from the polymeric photoinitiator of Formula (I). Medical devices comprising the gels and hydrophilic gel precursors of the invention are provided. The invention also provides the use of a polymeric photoinitiator in the manufacture of a gel.

Hydrophilic gels derived from grafted photoinitiators

This invention relates to an alloy comprising polyurethane and polyolefin. It has now surprisingly been found that a specific composition of polyolefin and polyurethane has surprising mechanical properties and at the same time has transparent characteristics and/or appearance. The present invention provides an alloy with remarkable mechanical properties. The phases do not macro-phase separate. Thus, this stable and potentially broad interface is very effective in stress transfer when the alloy is strained. As one might expect, the hardness values for the alloys are in between the hardness values of each component but the other physical properties are no adjusted. In this way, when considering the hardness and mechanical values, these alloys behave like two compatible polymers.

Alloy comprising polyolefin and thermoplastic polyurethane

A polyacrylate is obtained by radical polymerization of at least one acrylate monomer (Ac) in the presence of a polymeric photoinitiator. The polymeric photoinitiator is a co-polymer of at least one photoinitiator monomer (A) with at least one monomer (B), and optional additional monomers (C). Rapid polymerization of the acrylate monomer is provided. A method produces a polyacrylate using the polymeric photoinitiator as described, and a polymeric photoinitiator is used as the photoinitiator of radical polymerization of acrylate monomers.

Routes to polyacrylates

The invention relates to a polymer (P) comprising at least one photoinitiator moiety (PI) and at least one dye moiety (DYE), wherein said at least one photoinitiator moiety (PI) and at least one dye moiety (DYE) are covalently linked to said polymer (P). Additionally, the invention relates to said polymer (P) being end-functionalized with optionally substituted acryloyi groups. The fact that both of these moieties are tightly bonded within the polymer, and the cross-linked polymer, means that the opportunities for leaching/migration of these components is reduced or even eliminated. Inks comprising at least one of said polymers are also provided. Methods for the manufacture of the polymers, and for printing are provided.

Polymers comprising photoinitiator moieties and dye moieties

The invention provides a method for producing a polymeric photoinitiator of the general formula I: Polymer-[CR2-CHR-Spacer (PI)], (I) wherein m is an integer from 1-5000; n is a real number above 0 and below 5; each R group, independently, is a substituent independently selected from hydrogen, C1-C25 linear alkyl, C3-C25 branched alkyl, C3-C25 cycloalkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, &#x2014;OH, &#x2014;CN, halogens and amines and PI is a photoinitiator moiety. The method comprises grafting one or more photoinitiator moieties (PI), each of which comprises at least one activated alkene functional group, onto the polymer. Polymeric photoinitiators are also provided.

Grafted photoinitiators

The present invention provides novel photoinitiators for polyurethane formation, in which a photoinitiator moiety and a tertiary amine are incorporated into the photoinitiator structure, and thus the polyurethane polymer.

Photoinitiators

A polymeric photoinitiator, most suitably a polyurethane photoinitiator, is obtained by step-growth co-polymerization of at least one monomer (A) with at least one monomer (B). Monomer (A) includes a photoinitiator moiety, while monomer (B) is a monomer reactive with monomer (A) to form a polymer. A method produces the polymeric photoinitiator, a method cross-links the polymeric photoinitiator, and the polymeric photoinitiator is used as a photoinitiator of radical polymerization.

The invention provides a method for the manufacture of a catheter comprising a hydrophilic gel. The method comprising the steps of combining a polymeric photoinitiator of the general formula (I):R(A)-(R(A)-O)&#x2014;(R(A)-O)&#x2014;R(A)&#x2003;&#x2003;(I)with one or more gel-forming polymers and/or gel-forming monomers to form a matrix composition, curing the matrix composition by exposing it to UV radiation, exposing the matrix composition to a swelling medium and incorporating the hydrophilic gel into a catheter.
