Mating faces of a microchannel plate (MCP) () and a multi-layer ceramic body () unit are deposited with a thin film having protuberances () using a suitable metal selected for optimum diffusion at a desired temperatures and pressure. The metallized MCP () and multi-layer ceramic body () unit are then aligned and placed in a bonding fixture (F) that provides the necessary force applied to the components to initiate a diffusion bond at a desired elevated temperature. The bonding fixture (F) is then placed in a vacuum heat chamber (V) to accelerate the diffusion bonding process between the MCP () and the multi-layer ceramic body unit ().

A hybridized Lead-Salt infrared radiation detector includes a focal plane having a substrate and a sensitized, delineated Lead-Salt layer upon the substrate, the delineations forming a plurality of sections in a two-dimensional array. The detector also includes electrical contacts for each of the sections and a common grid between the sections. The detector further includes a layer of conductive barrier material on each electrical contact, a layer of passivating material on each section, and a layer of fusible conductive material on each layer of conductive barrier material.

A reusable miniaturized detector that utilizes magneto-optic elements to detect the occurrence of an electrostatic discharge during the manufacture or handling of electrostatic discharge sensitive electronic components and circuit boards. The device may also be used to determine the polarity and magnitude of the electrostatic discharge. The device may be manually or automatically read, either by removing the device from the environment being monitored or continuously monitoring in situ. The device can also be configured to provide protection to some electrostatic discharge events which could damage sensitive components being monitored.

A photoconductive detector array which is responsive to infrared light to provide an electrical output response includes a substrate which is transparent to infrared light. A continuous layer of photoconductive material is disposed upon the substrate, and a conductive grid disposed on the continuous layer of photoconductive material divides the photoconductive material electrically but not physically into plural detector areas. Electrical connection structure is provided for individual electrical contact with a central region of each one of the plural detector areas. A method of making a detector array according to the invention includes forming plural perforations through the continuous layer of photoconductive material to expose the substrate. The electrical connection structure includes contacts which are secured to the substrate through the photoconductive material and which effect electrical connection with this material for each one of the plural detector areas.

Infrared-responsive photoconductive array and method of making

An infrared line-scanning detector includes a scanner having an optical system, infrared linear photo-conductive detector providing an analog image signal, cooler, and conversion electronics for converting the image signal from the detector to digital electrical and digitally-encoded optical formats, all on a moving scanning platform of the scanner. The digitally-encoded optical format of the image signal takes the form of an encoded light beam which is beamed off of the moving scanning platform to a receiver on the stationary portion of the scanner. From the scanner, the image signal is transmitted in the optical format over a fiber optic cable to a reformatting, processing, analysis, and display portion of the imager. This latter portion of the imager allows the image signal to be converted once again to digital electronic format for processing, pattern recognition, image enhancement, storage, delayed display and comparison, and display in near-real time if desired.

An optical fiber may be used to define the optical gain element, and apparatus and method of aligning the fine-dimension optical fiber with the linear array of photoelectric elements are disclosed.
