An apparatus comprising a body and a wireless communication system. The body partially encloses a camera. The wireless communication system is integrated within or coupled to the body of the apparatus. The wireless communication system has a sensor and an antenna. The sensor is configured to determine an orientation of the wireless communication system. The antenna is configured to transmit or receive wireless signals. The antenna has a ground plane and a substrate connected to and extending from the ground plane. The substrate has one or more chamfers formed within a wall of the substrate and feeds disposed on the substrate.

Rotational wireless communication system

An apparatus including a body and a wireless communication system. The body partially encloses a camera. The wireless communication system is integrated within or coupled to the body of the apparatus. The wireless communication system includes: a sensor, an antenna, a switching unit, a wireless communication circuit, and a controller. The sensor is configured to determine an orientation of the wireless communication system. The antenna is configured to transmit or receive wireless signals and configured to have an antenna gain and polarization. The switching unit is configured to change a configuration of the antenna gain and polarization. The wireless communication circuit is electrically coupled to the antenna to transmit or receive the wireless signals. The sensor determines the orientation of the wireless communication system related to an external wireless communication system and the switching unit changes the configuration of the antenna gain and polarization.

Disclosed by way of example embodiments is a wireless communication system transmitting or receiving a wireless signal according to an orientation of the wireless communication system. In one aspect, the wireless communication system includes an antenna operable in different configurations. In each configuration, the antenna has a corresponding antenna gain in a direction with respect to the antenna. The wireless communication system further includes a sensor for determining an orientation of the wireless communication system. According to the determined orientation, the antenna is configured to transmit or receive the wireless signal in a corresponding configuration. Hence, the wireless communication system disposed in different orientations can successfully communicate with another wireless communication system.

An apparatus including a first layer having a first coil; a second layer having a second coil, where the first and second coils are stacked relative to each other and configured to be located at an aperture of a housing member including electrically conductive material; and a third layer located under the second layer. Tunable filter off-states for noise rejection

An antenna arrangement includes a switch having an open state and a closed state, a first antenna that operates as a first active driven element in a first frequency band in response to the switch being in the open state, and a second antenna that operates as a second active driven element in a first frequency band in response to the switch being in the open state. The closed state configures the first antenna and the second antenna to operate in a second frequency band different from the first frequency band by operatively coupling a first impedance between the first antenna and a radio frequency ground, and by operatively coupling a second impedance between the second antenna and the radio frequency ground. The first antenna functions as a parasitic element in the second frequency band and the second antenna functions as an active driven element in the second frequency band.

Systems and techniques for management of an antenna tuning frequency range. Frequency coverage needed for an antenna used in a portable communications device in a wireless communication network is determined based on communication protocols being used, with an active tuner being connected to a passively tuned antenna when a different frequency range is called for and with the active tuner being effectively isolated when only the range provided by the passively tuned antenna is needed to reduce the risk of RF mixing or intermodulation.
