Various methods and systems are provided for an x-ray imaging system. In one example, a method for decelerating a rotor of an x-ray tube of an imaging system includes controlling and/or monitoring a speed and position of the rotor, passing the rotor through a first position where a force exerted on the rotor, is less than Earth's gravitational pull, the force due to a combination of gravity and radial acceleration, and initiating a predefined deceleration profile to decelerate the rotor to a halt when the x-ray tube passes through the first position.

Methods for x-ray tube rotors with speed and/or position control

An electrical generator and method for operating the same are provided. Accordingly, the generator includes a non-rotatable component supporting a field winding assembly and a rotatable component oriented to rotate relative thereto. The generator also includes an armature winding assembly fixedly coupled to the rotatable component so as to rotate therewith during operation of the generator. The generator also includes a resistive assembly fixedly coupled to the rotatable component so as to rotate therewith during the operation of the generator. The resistive assembly electrically couples at least two separate phase windings of the armature winding assembly. The resistive assembly is also configured to introduce a resistance into the armature winding assembly in response to an electrical fault.

Electrical generator and method of operating the same

A wind turbine includes a superconducting generator having an armature and a superconducting field winding set. The armature includes at least one multiphase armature winding set having a plurality of armature windings. The superconducting field winding set is separated by a gap from the armature. The superconducting field winding set includes a plurality of field windings, wherein one of the armature winding set and superconducting field winding set is connectable to rotate with a rotating component of the wind turbine and another of the armature and the superconducting field winding set being non-rotating. The wind turbine also includes a controllable power converter coupled to the at least one multiphase armature winding set and a controller configured to control switching operations of the controllable power converter to effect a phase shift among the plurality of armature windings.

System for controlling phase shifting of superconducting electric machines

A system and method for operating a drive system coupleable to one or more DC and AC electrical ports is disclosed. The drive system includes a DC link, at least one DC-DC converter, at least one DC-AC converter, a DC link capacitor, and a control system configured to control operation of one or more of the at least one DC-DC converter and the at least one DC-AC converter relative to one another based on operational parameters thereof. In controlling operation of one or more of the at least one DC-DC converter and the at least one DC-AC converter, the control system controls at least one of a switching frequency of the at least one DC-DC converter, a switching frequency of the at least one DC-AC converter, a DC-DC converter carrier signal phase, a DC-AC converter carrier signal phase, and a duty cycle of the at least one DC-DC converter.

Drive system and method of operation thereof for reducing DC link current ripple

Various methods and systems are provided for an x-ray imaging system. In one example, an x-ray tube of the imaging system includes a rotor with a core forming a continuous unit with at least one of a retention sleeve and a bearing assembly sleeve. The rotor further includes one or more magnets disposed in the core and maintained in place by the retention sleeve.

Methods and systems for a magnetic motor X-ray assembly

A drive system for driving an AC electric machine includes an electric machine power converter that provides a primary current excitation vector having a magnitude and angle to drive the AC electric machine. A control system separate from or incorporated into the power converter causes the power converter to inject a carrier signal to the AC electric machine that is superimposed onto the current vector and that generates a carrier response signal that has sensitivity to magnetic alignment information of the AC electric machine at its operating point, the carrier response signal providing a measurable magnetic alignment signature of the AC electric machine. The control system causes the power converter to inject the carrier signal at an injection angle between a constant flux injection angle and a constant torque injection angle, to reduce noise and/or vibration of the AC electric machine caused by the injected carrier signal.

System and method for self-sensing of electric machines and reduction of noise and vibration associated therewith

An annular rotating armature is presented. The annular rotating armature includes an armature winding having a plurality of coils, an armature support structure and a magnetic shield disposed between the armature winding and the armature support structure. The magnetic shield having a first magnetic shield ring, a second magnetic shield ring disposed concentric to the first magnetic shield ring and coupled to the first magnetic shield ring via a magnetic shield bridge link. An air gap is formed between the first magnetic shield ring and the second magnetic shield ring. The magnetic shield bridge link is disposed within the air gap. A superconducting generator including the annular rotating armature and a wind turbine having such superconducting generator are also presented.

Magnetic shield for a superconducting generator

A portable neutron generator is provided that does not utilize liquid cooling. The portable neutron generator includes a vacuum chamber housing defining a vacuum chamber and an ion beam inlet. The portable neutron generator also includes a rotating target positioned within the vacuum chamber. The ion beam inlet is oriented to receive ions such that the ions impinge upon the rotating target to cause neutrons to be emitted. The rotating target comprises a copper alloy. The portable neutron generator also includes a motor core positioned within the vacuum chamber and coupled to the rotating target. A motor stator is electromagnetically coupled with the motor core. The motor core is configured to rotate the rotating target at greater than 200 Hz during operation.
