An integrated receiver drier and economizer (RDE) includes a tank having a hollow interior receiving a first flow of a refrigerant therein, the first flow of the refrigerant including a liquid phase of the refrigerant accumulating within a liquid containing portion of the hollow interior of the tank. An economizer receiving a second flow of the refrigerant through an interior thereof is at least partially submerged in the liquid containing portion of the tank. The economizer forms a heat exchanging structure configured to exchange heat between the first flow of the refrigerant passing over an exterior of the economizer and the second flow of the refrigerant passing through the interior of the economizer. A desiccant is disposed in the liquid containing portion of the tank downstream of the economizer with respect to the first flow of the refrigerant through the hollow interior of the tank.

Receiver drier and economizer integration for vapor injection system

A charging system includes an electric vehicle having a battery coolant circuit including a charging heat exchanger and a battery as well as a charging station including a charging coolant and a cooling heat exchanger for cooling the charging coolant. The charging coolant is selectively placed in fluid communication and heat exchange communication with the charging heat exchanger of the electric vehicle. The charging heat exchanger is disposed on a charging coolant flow path formed in the electric vehicle that extends from an inlet port configured for coupling to an inlet fitting of the charging station to an outlet port configured for coupling to an outlet fitting of the charging station.

A heat pump system for a vehicle comprises a heating, ventilating, and air conditioning module as well as a refrigerant circuit including a compressor, an internal condenser, and an external condenser. The module comprises a warm air path including the internal condenser, a cold air path formed independently from the warm air path, a purge flow path branching from the warm air path at a position downstream of the internal condenser with respect to a flow of air through the module, and a purge control door adjustable between a first position preventing fluid communication between the warm air path and the purge flow path and a second position allowing fluid communication between the warm air path and the purge flow path. The purge flow path provides fluid communication between the warm air path and the ambient environment.

The present disclosure provides an HVAC system for a vehicle having a first heat source and having a primary loop through which a coolant circulates and a secondary loop through which refrigerant circulates. The primary loop having two parallel sub-loops, namely a first sub-loop and a second sub-loop in which the coolant may circulate. The first sub-loop of the primary loop includes the first heat source, a second heat source, and a first heat exchanger. The first sub-loop may partially extend into a case of the HVAC system to place the first heat exchanger adjacent an air heater. The second sub-loop of the primary loop includes the first heat source, the second heat source, and a second heat exchanger. The HVAC system having a plurality of operation modes for efficiently conditioning air in a cabin of the vehicle.

HVAC system for a vehicle and method of use

A method of efficiently heating a passenger cabin of a vehicle includes heating a first fluid using a fluid heater. The first fluid flows through a thermal storage element to transfer thermal energy to the thermal storage element. The heating of the first fluid and the thermal storage element occurs during a recharging of a rechargeable power source used to power the vehicle. During operation of the vehicle and following discontinuation of the recharging of the rechargeable power source, the thermal energy stored to the thermal storage element is transferred to air to be distributed to the passenger cabin of the vehicle by flowing the first fluid through a first heat exchanger in thermal communication with the air to be distributed to the passenger cabin of the vehicle, thereby extending a range of the vehicle.
