An electrical connector assembly includes, among other things, a connector that includes a connector lock arm that is cantilevered from one side of the connector to a free end. The connector lock arm has first and second apertures that are separated by a block. The assembly further includes a connector position assurance lock that has a base that supports a wave-shaped center lock arm that is received in the connector lock arm. The center lock arm extends to a nose that has a shoulder. The connector position assurance lock is slidable between unlocked and fully locked positions that respectively correspond to the shoulder arranged in the first and second apertures. The center lock arm has a bend joined to the nose by a portion that is parallel to the connector lock arm in the unlocked and fully locked positions. The center lock arm is configured to be deflected to an improper mating position with the portion arranged non-parallel to the connector lock arm.

Wave connector position assurance lock with dual overlap connector lock

A shielded cable assembly capable of transmitting signals at speeds of 3.5 Gigabits per second (Gb/s) or higher without modulation or encoding over a single pair of conductors. The cable has a characteristic impedance of 95 Ohms and can support transmission data according to either USB 3.0 or HDMI 1.4 performance specifications. The wire cable includes a pair of conductors, a shield surrounding the conductors, and a dielectric structure configured to maintain a first predetermined spacing between the conductors and a second predetermined spacing between said conductors and said shield. The shield includes an inner shield conductor enclosing the dielectric structure and an outer shield conductor enclosing the inner shield conductor.

Shielded cable assembly

A connector system includes a connector body defining a terminal cavity and a first and second groove each extending along an outer surface of the connector body and a terminal retainer attached to the connector body and moveable from a pre-staged position to a staged position. The terminal retainer retains a terminal within the cavity in the staged position. The terminal retainer has a base, a pair of first cantilevered arms extending from the base, a crossbar extending between the first arms defining a first latch feature, and a second cantilevered arm extending from the crossbar. The second arm is between the pair of first arms and defines a second latch feature. The first latch feature engages the first groove in the pre-staged position and the second groove in the staged position. The second latch feature engages the first groove in the staged position.

Connector system with a terminal retaining device having a reverse hinged lock feature

An electromagnetic shield terminal assembly configured for attachment to a shielded cable includes a tubular inner ferrule having a flared attachment end configured to be disposed intermediate the shield conductor and the inner insulation layer of the cable and a crimped outer ferrule formed of sheet metal having a cable attachment portion that defines a pair of bypass crimp wings and a pair of insulation crimp wings. Each insulation crimp wing defines a prong having a pointed end that penetrates the outer insulation layer of the cable. The flared attachment end of the inner ferrule is located intermediate the bypass crimp wings and the insulation crimp wings when the outer ferrule is crimped to the shielded cable.

Sheilded cable assembly and electromagnetic shield terminal assembly for same

An electrical connection system configured to terminate electrical connectors and to transmit digital electrical signals having a data transfer rate of 5 Gigabits per second (Gb/s) or higher. The system includes a first parallel mirrored pair of terminals having a planar connection portion and a second pair of parallel mirrored terminals having a cantilever beam portion and a contact points configured to contact the first terminals. The cantilever beam portions are generally perpendicular to the planar connection portions. The terminals cooperate to provide consistent characteristic impedance. The connection system further includes an electromagnetic shield that longitudinally surrounds the terminals. The connection system is suited for terminating wire cables transmitting digital signals using data transfer protocols such as Universal Serial Bus (USB) 3.0 and High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) 1.4.

Electrical connection system for shielded wire cable

An electrical connection system configured to terminate electrical connectors and to transmit digital electrical signals having a data transfer rate of 5 Gigabits per second (Gb/s) or higher. The system includes a first parallel mirrored pair of terminals having a planar connection portion and a second pair of parallel mirrored terminals having a cantilever beam portion and a contact point configured to contact the first terminals.

An electrical shield connector configured to be attached to an end of a shielded cable having a conductive wire and a shield conductor longitudinally surrounding the conductive wire. The shield connector includes a connection portion that is configured for connection with a corresponding mating electrical shield connector and a cable attachment portion that is configured to longitudinally receive an end of the shield conductor. The connection portion defines a shroud surrounding an electrical terminal attached to the conductive wire. The cable attachment portion and/or crimp wings projecting therefrom define a projection that is configured to contact and indent the shield conductor, thereby mechanically and electrically connecting the shield connector to the shield conductor. The cable attachment portion may also define a knurled pattern in an interior surface of the cable attachment portion, such as a knurled pattern having a number of rhomboid-shaped indentations.

Electrical shield connector

An electrical connector shield configured to be attached to a shielded wire cable having a conductive wire cable and a shield conductor surrounding the wire cable that is separated from the wire cable by an inner insulator. The shielded wire cable further has an insulative jacket surrounding the outer shield. The electrical shield connector includes a connection portion for connection with a corresponding mating electrical connector shield and an attachment portion having a conductor crimp wing for attachment to the outer shield and an insulator crimp wing for attachment to the insulative jacket. The insulator crimp wing defines a prong having a pointed end to penetrate the insulative jacket. The end of the prong penetrates the insulative jacket but does not penetrate the inner insulator. The connector shield may define a protruding triangular lock tang to engage a lock edge within a cavity of an electrical connector body.

An electrical connection system configured to terminate electrical connectors and to transmit digital electrical signals having a data transfer rate of 5 Gigabits per second (Gb/s) or higher. The system includes a first parallel mirrored pair of terminals having a planar connection portion and a second pair of parallel mirrored terminals having a cantilever beam portion and a contact points configured to contact the first terminals. The cantilever beam portions are generally perpendicular to the planar connection portions. The terminals cooperate to provide consistent characteristic impedance. The connection system further includes an electromagnetic shield that longitudinally surrounds the terminals. The connection system is suited for terminating wire cables transmitting digital signals using data transfer protocols such as Universal Serial Bus (USB) 3.0 and High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) 1.3.

Electrical connection system

A first connector is matable to a second connector in an electrical connection system. The first connector has a connector body that contains a primary and a secondary latch. The respective latches and the connector body of the first connector are molded to form a single unitary piece. The single unitary piece is constructed to define a space intermediate the primary latch and the connector body. The space is adapted to fit a latch position assurance lock to prevent displacement of the primary latch. The primary and the secondary latch respectively communicate with at least one primary and at least one secondary latch ramp disposed on the second connector when at least the first connector is unmated from the second connector. A method to assemble an electrical connection system using the single unitary piece of the first connector is also provided.

Electrical connection system including connector body with integral primary and secondary latch

A shorting clip terminal connector assembly electrically shorts together terminals in a first connector body dependent on connection status of a first and a second connector body. A shorting clip terminal disposed in a shorting clip terminal cavity in the first connector body receives a protrusion disposed on the second connector body. When the second connector body is mated with the first connector body, the protrusion engages a lift element of the shorting clip terminal in the shorting clip terminal cavity thereon and urges the lift element to lift contact elements of the shorting clip terminal away from the terminals in the shorting clip terminal cavity enabling insertion of protrusion side walls intermediate the contact elements and the terminals in the shorting clip terminal cavity. The contact elements of the shorting clip terminal do not make electrical contact with the terminals and the protrusion side walls further shield the contact elements from making electrical contact with the terminals.
